Writer's Block: Divided Self

Mar 19, 2009 16:16

There are necessary differences. I spend an absurd amount of time online and the two personalities converged a few years ago. When I first started spending time online I was more opinionated, I'd argue in forums, and once made the mistake of using sarcasm online. I've learned that opinions are like assholes and I generally only give mine when asked. Arguing in forums is like getting in a poo slinging contest where no matter what both people wind up covered in shit in the end. Sarcasm doesn't translate online without excessive emotion icons and it can still be lost in translation.

Anyone familiar with my line of work will understand that I could not act the same online as in real life where aggressiveness is rewarded. Sarcasm is just apart of southern culture and an unavoidable character trait/flaw.  I'm simply kinder and far more mello online to sum it up.
