UPDATE:
Whiplash is literally a pain in the neck, but seems to be getting a little better.
The car is not totalled, though my theory that the differential was wrecked was correct. A new rear panel, trunk latch, bumper, rear axle and differential are being installed now and will be ready Friday. Woo hoo!

This has been a fabulous weekend even compared to the normal fabulousness of my weekends. I've been running around to parties and concerts, making new friends and spending quality time with wonderful, fun people. I've been making lots of yummy summer food too -- fruit salad and pesto and strawberry lemonade and iced tea. It's been absolutely delightful.
Except for one thing.
While driving home from brunch yesterday I came to a rapid stop at a pedestrian crosswalk on 45th, and the SUV driver behind me was not watching where she was going and rammed the back of my car.
My beautiful car!
After exchaning contact info with Lydia, the other driver, I managed to limp home -- I was only five blocks away, thank goodness -- but by the time I got there a terrible grinding noise was coming from the transmission, and now she won't drive at all. I think the torsen differential is messed up. My car, aka "Therapy On Wheels" may well be a total write-off. We'll have to see what the mechanics say.
Thank goodness neither driver nor the pedestrians were hurt. I bumped the back of my head pretty hard against the seat and my neck feels a little stiff, but I still have full range of motion. I'll have someone check me out just in case, but it should be fine.
So assuming that ToW will be a total writeoff, I suppose I ought to start thinking about what my next toy car will be. Another Miata? Honda S2000? Definitely a convertible.
