Does anyone believe this?

I was just cruising Tv Tropes, and to my surprise I found they had a listing for Gen Whitmore's 'Little Tales' webcomic that wasn't loaded with infantile and snarky comments (given her faith and politics).

However, they did link to one cimic that has me going, "Huh? Is this supposed to be for real?"

Namely this one: Third Time's the Charm. In which Gen talks about her previous relationships that didn't turn out so well, and then lists the one that did with her hubby Uriel.

It's just that... argue without losing your temper and while speaking respectfully to the other person? Given that every argument I've ever been in, both within and without the family, IRL or on the Internet, involved name calling, yelling, in-your-face anger and commands to "sit down and shut up, you little fool, you don't know what you're talking about!" (not always expressed so politely) Sometimes with the promise of being hit if you didn't.

This is still how I do it, which is one of the main reasons I avoid touchy subjects here on anywhere else with anyone outside of a very small group of people. The only way to respond to a contrary opinion is to either leave before the fight begins, or tell them "MY place, MY opinion, I AM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG! Now agree, shut up, or get out!"

That is the normal way of doing things, right? The person who owns wherever you happen to be having the conversation is in the right, and your duty as a good guest is to agree or remain silent? And open disagreement with them is a deliberate taunt or insult?

Sometimes I wonder if the rest of the world just never learned how to develop a thick skin. That was always one of the family's biggest criticisms of me.

I hope I get some responses here. Best all.
