Great SF for Black Friday

Nov 26, 2010 14:56

Just wanted to help shill for some nice folks I know, so here we go:

First of all, Haikujaguar has some of her books on Smashwords for sale, as noted here: http://haikujaguar.livejournal.com/872689.html

I recommend them both, especially the Aphorisms. Think of them as proverbs or what Haiku herself calls "wisdom literature" from a culture that is both more alien then what you usually get in modern mainstream SF and yet oddly understandable (or so it may seem at first...) Really, they are GREAT stories. It's short too if that's any recommendation.

However, the sale ends at midnight, so if you want them better hurry!

Secondly, Paizo is having a giant sale on their website at http://www.paizo.com which will run through to Monday. Even if you're not into D&D 3.75/the Pathfinder RPG itself, they are selling many of their Planet Stories book at a decent price. These are trade paperbacks going for regular-size paperback prices, and many if not all are books that haven't seen the light of day in decades. Among the authors and titles available for the sale, they have:

Michael Moorcock's 'Kane of Old Mars'

Otis Adelbert Kline's 'Swordsman of Mars' and 'Outlaws of Mars' (I have read both, and they are GREAT sword & planet books.)

Leigh Brackett's 'Ginger Star' trilogy, some of her Eric John Stark books and one or two of her other Mars books. Great, lush and gorgeous planetary romance by one of the forgotten greats of SF. This is what Haikujaguar would have written if she'd been born way back in the 30s and grew up on Weird Tales and Planet Stories. Of course, if she ever wants to write something like that now I'm certain her fans would love it (hint, hint). ;)

They also have works by C.L. Moore, Henry Kuttner, and even Robert E. Howard's forgotten planetary romance 'Almuric'. This is a great sale, and these are books not to be missed.

Best all and I hope some of you find something at those links you'll want to read an enjoy.

EDIT: Last but hardly least, I got some prints today that were sent out Tuesday by Xianjaguar. She gives great service and sells her prints at a fine price considering the amount of work and beauty involved. Heck, she even tossed a free one in, so buy more than one and see what you get. You see so many complaints about bad artists, I just wanted to brag up one who deserves more priase than she gets.

Thanks, Brenda!

EDIT 2: Forgot to add -- and here's a link for Brenda's art so you can see what she's got available: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/xianjaguar/

good writing, furry artists, heroic fantasy, planet stories, paizo, science fiction, furry art, haikujaguar
