Review Coming Soon: H.P. Lovecraft's Superhero Comics Stories!

Aug 31, 2009 09:37

Just got a great book in the mail that I'll be reviewing fully in a day or so after I read it. It covers H.P. Lovecraft's little-known or appreciated period from 1938-1947 when he was writing Golden Age superhero comics for Julius Schwartz alongside old pals like Robert Bloch and Fritz Leiber. It takes you back to the days of four-color comics when forgotten wonders like Captain Future, Randolph Carter the Dream Master, the American Eagle, and the Scarab fought villains like the Nazi sorceror Baron von Junzt, Lucifuge, and the Ooze -- all with Luveph-Keraph himself sitting at the helm!

It has sadly little on his later Hollywood career as a filmwriter; I had hoped to read something on his real opinion about the infamous Abbott & Costello meet Hastur, but such was not to be. Ah well.

See you later!
