Comcast Sucks
Not much has been happening lately. I haven't been into work since Sunday, which is nice, even if it means I'm not making any money :/ I've mostly been sitting around my house reading and working on Gallery 3 addon code. That plus the whole "comcast thing" that took up a decent chuck of today...
Comcast is doing some kind of "service enhancement" in my area. This means that anyone who wants to watch tv above channel 30 needs to have a digital tv box plugged into their tv... Except I don't actually own a tv, I own a computer that thinks its a tv...
I got their "free" converter box in the mail today, and spent an hour setting it up, activating it, and then on hold with comcast when the activation didn't work. The box is now hooked up and "working", except if I want to change the channel I have to use the remote that came with the box. The computer can't change it automatically like it does with the analog cable. This means I can't have the computer record tv shows when I'm not home (which is basically all the time, given that I usually work nights). I spent a couple more hours wandering the internet in search of a fix for this. Basically, it's going to cost me about $80 in additional parts to hook up their box (which isn't even an HD box, that's extra $) in such a way that I can actually use it properly :( Yea, I'm sticking with my tv antenna for the time being. Antenna = free HDTV, plus I haven't watched tv in weeks anyway. It's just not worth the money right now.
I also ended up at one of my aunt's houses today. Apparently one of the hard drives in their computer's RAID array died, and they didn't know what to do. It seems that the fact that their (dell) computer had two hard drives set up in a mirrored raid array (the computer automatically stores a copy of every file on both drives instead of just one drive) was news to them... People need to not buy shit that they don't understand, especially if it means me having to drive out and fix it.
I also called work for my employee schedule today, I'm off Saturday, and I've got a bizarre 4:45 to close shift on tuesday that the managers didn't know anything about, but otherwise it looks like a normal week :(
