So I was sitting on the printer when Greg came over to me. "Erika," he said. I looked up at him. "Look outside," he told me. Confused, I stood and looked- but from so far away and through a dirty window, I saw nothing. "What am I looking at?" I asked.
He took my hand and walked me to the door. My eyes widened. "It's SNOW," he told me. "It's SNOWING!"
I grabbed his hand and ran him out into it. I had never seen it fall from the sky like that before- my last winter, it always snowed when I was asleep or holed up into some classroom.
I tried to catch them, but could not! They melted as soon as they hit my hand, though why I could not figure out- I am sure my hands were more frozen than they.
Flurries, Ricky called them.
My corduroys caught them much better than I could, and I lifted up my leg like a little girl and inspected them. And I could see the snowflakes!
I used to think that snowflakes were big, the size of my palm or even Rollie's, because that is what they looked like when I cut them out of paper when I was in grade school. It was not something I ever thought about, just something I figured I knew. Why would teachers lie to me?
I didn't realize I was clueless until I moved here the first time (I was a freshman) and realized that I had no idea what snow was. There was no such thing as a snowflake!! Then I decided that snow must just be like in the Christmas cartoons, where it just looked like cotton falling out of the sky. So I didn't really understand why it was so tough to make a snow angel. It was not powdery at all!
And that was the last idea I had about the snow.
Until I saw my first snowflake today!!
It was cool, but I could do without it. I cannot wait to be home, in bed with my Ally!!
I love you, gorgeous- soon!!
