Back in 1992, an unlicensed Nintendo developer called Active Enterprises tried to cash in on the popularity of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game with an anthropomorphic crimefighter franchise of their own, called "The Cheetahmen." They failed. Miserably. Their Cheetahmen game, which was rushed to meet impossible deadlines and therefore about as playable as a brick, earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the worst video games ever. The sequel Cheetahmen II, which was already in development, was quickly scrapped, and despite an ill-conceived plan to release it in 1997 it never really say the light of day.
UNTIL NOW.
See, Cheetahmen II has a wonderful little secret. Yes, it's poorly conceived, poorly designed, and buggy to the point of near-unplayability (powerups don't work, sprites flicker, deaths happen for no reason, game freezes). But Cheetahman II's one saving grace, the only thing that has kept Cheetahmen II from fading into total obscurity, is that for reasons unknown to man or beast, it has a really, really bitchin' soundtrack.
Consequently, the soundtrack has become a huge hit in Japan. And naturally, it was only a matter of time before there were a flurry of remixes on Nico Nico Douga, the video equivalent of 2chan. One particularly adventurous soul turned it into an awesome hip-hop song. I understand just enough Japanese to know that it's hilarious. It sounds so natural, too--you'd never guess it came from a terrible American NES game.
