For
picspammy's 19th challenge: Second Chance. I plan on doing two picspams for this challenge and the first is a casting one. I've always wanted to do one of these and I'm working on a Greek Mythology one at the moment though I want to save that one till later. I kept racking my brain for something else I love but with fewer characters. Beauty and the Beast came to me unexpectedly but I knew immediately I had to do it. As my favourite Disney film, my favourite musical, and one of my favourite fairytales, to say it means a lot to me is an understatement. I know the story by heart, the songs lyric for lyric, and adore these characters. It seemed only natural that I'd cast it for real life. I have to give a big thank you to
zombie_boogie because this would not be as amazing without her help. Hope you enjoy!
"Well it's my favorite! Far off places, daring swordfights, magic spells, a prince in disguise!"
Emily Blunt as Belle
Belle was surprisingly not as hard as I had been imagining to cast. Emily Blunt was one of the first actresses that came to mind when I started of thinking of who to cast as Belle. I think she's completely got the look of Belle, the only thing I was really concerned about was Belle's dreamer side. I know Emily Blunt can pull off Belle's independence and ability to stand up to people but I wasn't sure about her softer side. However, I think she can completely pull it off. She's a tremendous actress and I'd love to see her in this role.
Runner-Up: Keira Knightley
"I'm just fooling myself. She'll never see me as anything...but a monster."
Richard Armitage as Beast
Rule #87 About Casting Picspams: Always cast Richard Armitage as someone. He seemed like a natural choice for Beast. He's got the gruff darkness to play Beast but he's extremely, ridiculously handsome that I know he could pull off the Prince at the end. We've seen his tender side before so I have no doubt he could play both sides of the Beast.
"How can you read this? There's no pictures!"
Gerard Butler as Gaston
Gaston was actually one of the harder characters to cast but when Gerard Butler's name came up, I was wondering why I hadn't though of him before! He's perfect. He's got the build for Gaston and we know he can play the cocky bad boy while acting ridiculous so he'd be perfect as Gaston.
Runner-Up: Jonathan Rhys-Meyers
"There will be music. Romantic candlelight, provided myself, and when the time is right, you confess your love."
David Tennant as Lumiere
Lumiere is my favourite character from this film as well as my favourite Disney character so he was who I was most worried about casting because I wanted him to be perfect. I think David Tennant fits the bill wonderfully. The fact that I've seen him as Casanova was what ultimately made me choose him, I think. He's tall and lanky like Lumiere and ridiculously charming and Lumiere is, at his core, a lover, and David Tennant's got the perfect compassion and personality to pull it off.
"This is yet another example of the neo-classic baroque period, and as I always say, if it's not baroque, don't fix it!"
Stephen Fry as Cogsworth
Cogsworth was the first character I cast and Stephen Fry was the first person I thought of. It's just the perfect cast. Not to mention the duo of him and David Tennant would be brilliant.
"Oh, try to be patient, sir. The girl has lost her father and her freedom all in one day."
Dame Judi Dench as Mrs. Potts
My first thought was Angela Lansbury because she is Mrs. Potts but I wanted to go outside the box. I was afraid Judi dench was too stern for Mrs. Potts but she has her stern moments with Chip and Beast so I think Judi Dench could really pull it off. She's a pheneomenal actress so I don't doubt she could also capture Mrs. Potts' compassion.
Runner-Up: Angela Lansbury
"Told ya she was pretty, mama, didn't I?"
Thomas Sangster as Chip
Whenever I cast someone like this, Thomas Sangster and Freddie Highmore are always the first two I go for. However, for this, I went with the former because I think he has more of Chip's mischievous side and I can really see him fitting this role. Too bad he's getting a bit old now!
Runner-Up: Freddie Highmore
"It is my hands, isn't it? Oh, mon dieu, you don't love me anymore."
Virginie Ledoyen as Babette
Admittedly, I've never seen Virginie Ledoyen in anything but I think she really embodies Babette who is Lumiere's love interest (and, to be honest, theirs is my favourite love story in this story). She's a flirt and sensual and very attractive but ultimately has a good heart and is, in my mind, a hard worker at the castle. I basically have her and Lumiere's whole relationship sitting in my mind with them fighting and being non-committal and have probably gone far too in-depth for a Disney film. But I think Ledoyen could really get Babette's character across. And the quote I used is from the musical which greatly expands on her relationship with Lumiere which I love.
Runner-Up: Audry Tautou, Sophie Marceau
"Why the master's not so bad once you get to know him. Why don't you give him a chance?"
Kathy Bates as Madame de la Grande Bouche
I thought of Bernadette Peters at first because of the character but I think, on the whole, Kathy Bates is better fit because of her physicality as well as as boisterous personality that she can pull off.
Runner-Up: Bernadette Peters
If no one will help me, then I'll go back alone. I don't care what it takes. I'll find that castle and somehow I'll get her out of there."
Jim Broadbent as Maurice
Jim Broadbent may not have the stature of Maurice but I think he completely fits the character with his quirky, endearing personality. I can't imagine anyone else as Maurice, really.
"Who, you? Never. Gaston, you've got to pull yourself together."
Oliver Platt as Lefou
Timothy Spall was the first thought because of who he played in Enchanted but he felt too old for me. Admittedly, Oliver Platt isn't young but I think he looks the part and I know he can do comedy. I'd love to see him in the role.
Runner-Up: Timothy Spall
"He's such a tall, dark, strong and handsome brute!"
Amanda Seyfried as Bimbettes
The reason why there's only one actress is because these girls are triplets and so Amanda Seyfried would play them all. My first thought was Karen from Mean Girls and I knew she'd be perfect with a little of Sophie from Mamma Mia! thrown in.
Runner-Up: Kristen Bell
"I don't usually leave the asylum in the middle of the night, but they said you'd make it worth my while."
Terence Stamp as Monsieur D'arque
Crispin Glover was my first thought because of how perfect he'd be with prosthetics and make-up but I think Terence Stamp could really get who Monsieur D'Arque is and he already looks the part.
Runner-Up: Crispin Glover
The end! Hope you enjoyed. I'd love to hear what you all think.
