I. OH MAN. NEW FANDOM? I THINK SO. PLEASE TO BE SEEING NEW LAYOUT.

First off, I would just like to say the following: THIS FILM IS TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY EPIC ON EVERY LEVEL. I have no idea why the critics are being so harsh because I thought it was such a fun film and brilliantly done on every account. Guy Ritchie really went with his vision of Holmes and it worked superbly. The acting was top-notch (no surprise there), the music was great (HANS ZIMMER ♥), and cinematography and visuals of the film were great, the plot was fun, AND THE FACT THAT IT SO TOTALLY OBVIOUSLY SET UP FOR A SEQUEL IS AWESOME. CANNOT WAIT.

I think what was great about this film is that it was just fun and I think it impressed a lot of dedicate Holmes fans. I've only read a couple of Doyle's stories (and plan to read all of them one day) but from what I know, and from what dedicated fans are saying, Ritche did stick to Doyle's vision as much as he could and the film was a pleasant surprise. Given that I do love Holmes and Watson and all that these stories stand for, I would have been mildly disappointed had Doyle taken a completely different spin on it but he seemed to stay true to Doyle. I think the fact that it has pleasantly surprised so many people is great accomplishment for it and that it completely deserves it. It was such a wonderful film.

As I said, the visuals were stunning. I love Ritche's artistic vision with this film. The colours were absolutely gorgeous. I love the bits where Holmes would explain what was going to happen in slow-motion and then have it actually happen. The angles were fantastic and I just think where Ritche went with this was a great vision. I commend and applaud him so much for this film and I absolutely cannot wait to see what he does with the sequels.

OHHH AND THE COSTUMES. I WANTED EVERY OUTFIT IRENE AND MARY WORE. SO GORGEOUS. And I've already said the music was amazing and it was but can we expect anything different from Hans Zimmer? I already have the soundtrack and am listening to it at this very moment. Really, guys. I am obsessed with film soundtracks. I have so many - over fifty, actually, and that's only including films that have scores. They are just so absolutely gorgeous and can really help make a film. They are crucial and I just love them to pieces.

I quite enjoyed the plot of the film. I thought it was good, Holmes fun. It was smart and funny and full of adventure and the wit was fantastic. Overall, I just loved watching it.

The cast was excellent. Mark Strong pleasantly surprised me AND HELLO THERE, CAROLINE BINGLEY! My sister and I cracked up at that.

Personally, I loved the dynamic between RDJ, Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams. I loved all of them. RDJ was perfect as Holmes (the ego, the obsessive personality, the wit) and I really did like Rachel McAdams' Irene Adler but I think Jude Law was just perfect as Watson. All of them really stepped up the plate and I severely enjoyed all three of their performances. I think they really put in a lot of dedication to their roles and really did the best they could to embody Holmes, Watson, and Irene.

Here's what I say: IRENE/HOLMES/WATSON OT3 FTW! Honestly, the homoeroticism between Holmes and Watson was undeniable. Helen and I made so many jokes and quips about them being lovers throughout the film it was ridiculous. I imagine it was intentional and I think it was handled very well. Their bromance was obvious but so perfect as well. RDJ and Law had the best rapport between each other to really get down the relationship between Holmes and Watson. I love the exploration and admittance of Holmes and Watson being as close as they truly are. It was just absolutely perfect and no one can deny the epic bromance these two have. I think I may actually ship it.

That being said, I also really enjoyed Holmes' relationship with Irene and I think RDJ and McAdams' chemistry was off the charts. I don't know but a lot of people seem to not like Irene. I have yet to read A Scandal in Bohemia so I don't know what she's like in literary form but I quite enjoyed McAdams' portrayal of her. I thought she was a great female lead. She was witty and could hold her own against Holmes at most times and was just a really fun, conniving character. And I probably ship her with Holmes as well. I don't think the feelings they have between each other can be denied, especially Holmes' (and especially during their last scene together on the bridge when he admits he'll miss her and wipes her tear and kisses her head - OMG ONE OF THE CUTEST, MOST HEARTBREAKING SCENES, definitely one of my favourites of the film). I look forward to how their relationship will progress in the sequel. I really loved Holmes talking about how Irene was afraid of the Professor and how he knows her that well. I don't know - I know I'm in the minority on this one but I love Rachel McAdams and I love Irene and I love Holmes/Irene.

Of course, I also like Holmes/Watson. And I definitely like them being THE TRIP OF AWESOME OR THE MOST AWESOME OT3 OF ALL. I loved them all working together at the end of the film, especially when Irene was hanging on the machine and Watson had to put her on his shoulders. Oh, I hope we get more of that.

So yes. Overall, I LOVED IT. IT WAS JUST TOO FREAKING EPIC. Definitely one of my favourite films of the year - easy. I can't wait for more and I definitely want to see it again. Also, best credits ever. Just saying.

Otherwise, we saw some pretty epic trailers!

Clash of the Titans: WHOOOOOO. NEXT YEAR WILL BE THE YEAR OF GREEK MYTHOLOGY. This looks pretty epic and I'm definitely excited to see Liam Neeson as Zeus. My mom really wants me to see the original and I probably will one day but for now, this looks awesome and definitely like a good adventure film. Plus I am all over any Greek mythology.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice: You know, I actually love what they're doing with this film. As of late, Nic Cage's films haven't really been up to snuff (though I still really want to see Bad Lieutenant) and I'm hoping this will help boost his career. I think it looks awesome and I'm excited to see it.

So much to watch! Therefore, my goal for the last week of winter break is as follows: senior project, English homework (easy to finish), and catch up with viewing stuff (films, Hamlet, Merlin, Who).

II. MY BLU-RAY PLAYER WORKS. The day I bought Inglourious Basterds on Blu-Ray, the player stopped working. We had to call the people three times (over the course of last night and this morning) and all three people gave us the same directions and the last guy finally succeeded in giving us something slightly different that made it work. Also, apparently a chord wasn't plugged in all the way. XD BUT NOW IT'S WORKING AND WORKING BETTER THAN BEFORE YAY! So we're going to watch that film tonight and I'm pumped because I love that film.

Catch you later, calculators.
