I. OH MY GOD. INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS WAS AWESOME. WORDS CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW AWESOME IT WAS.
1. ELI ROTH. WHEN DID YOU GET SO SEXY? Not to menton you look similar to ZQ but that is completely besides the point. Clearly.
I SHOULD NOT BE THINKING HOW SEXY YOU ARE WHEN YOU'RE BASHING IN THE HEAD OF A NAZI WITH A BASEBALL BAT. GODDAMN. :>
Also. This. Brad Pitt/Eli Roth BASTERD BFFS, YOU KNOW IT. Plus it's great eye candy. Brad Pitt has been a guilty pleasure of mine for ages and next to Eli Roth? I am so in.
2. THIS SOUNDTRACK. IT IS MINE ALREADY BECAUSE THE MUSIC WAS AWESOME. JUST LIKE THE FILM. See? Soundtrack queen = me. Nickname dubbed by
artic_fox.
OKAY. SERIOUS THOUGHT TIME.
Starring: Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Mike Myers, Michael Fassbenderr, Diane Kruger, Daniel Bruhl, Til Schweiger, Melanie Laurent, B.J. Novak and Samm Levine
Directed By: Quentin Tarantino
Now, I don't necessarily consider myself a big Tarantino fan. I don't love him, I don't hate him. But I definitely respect him. It's clear he loves making films and I love when that comes across in a film. Pulp Fiction was good, the Kill Bill films were all right (I actually think a re-watch is in order for those). This film, however, blew me away. Best Tarantino film I've ever seen, bar none. Some will probably dispute with me on that (especially concerning Pulp Fiction) but I stand by my assessment. It's interesting because I watched Valkyrie again this week (and I absolutely love that film) and Inglourious Basterds could not be more different. But a good WWII film is a good WWII film. And this was an EXCELLENT WWII film.
And very Tarantino. I do have to admire his unique style and that he's not just a 'typical' director. He was written all over this film. He had me laughing at things I would normally never laugh at and both loving and cringing at the violence. REALLY. I SHOULD NOT BE ENJOYING SOMEONE GETTING THEIR HEAD BEAT IN SO MUCH. Also, I loved how Tarantino did the backstory for Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz. I wish we had gotten that kind of backstory for most of the other Basterds. Ah, well. Eli Roth's character Donny Donowitz had an epic introduction but that will come later.
I've already mentioned the music but I must do so again BECAUSE IT WAS AWESOME. This soundtrack is beautiful. I cannot stop listening to it. Again, a very Tarantino soundtrack but it fit this film like a glove. Just everything about this.
The plot of this film was excellent because there were all these chapters and characters and storylines and then it all just came together. At first it seemed complicated and like there was too much going on but by the end, everything just fit. And I'm usually a sucker for WWII films anyway so to have one that was unconventional and yet oh-so awesome was a breath of fresh air for the entertainment industry and such an amazing thing to watch.
There were some slower points, definitely, in typical Tarantino fashion. However, they weren't slow scenes where you started falling asleep or something. They keep your attention held just like the rest of the film. It's amazing to see. Also, by the end of the film, in the theatre with Operation Kino going down, my heart was pounding. That's the type of film it was. It had me sitting there, anxiously awaiting to see what would happen and it's not a film where you know what the ending will be which makes it fun.
So, as I've said, Brad Pitt is my guilty pleasure. I think he's ridiculously good looking and he proved long ago that he had acting chops so to see him in something like this was amazing. Definitely showed off the talent he has. Unlike how the trailer paints this, he film is not about Brad Pitt but he does play a definitive and incredible role. Diane Kruger was excellent and gorgeous but Mélanie Laurent definitely stole the film out of the two. This entire cast was amazing. Even Mike Myers! Fancy seeing him here even though I knew he was in it a while ago. Definitely weird, though.
However, the film, for me, belonged to Christoph Waltz who played Hans Landa. Oh, he was good. He was good. Charming and talented and there were chills with his character. I think he most definitely stole every scene he was in. He didn't really upstage anyone and everyone else was fantastic but there was something about his performance that was just amazing.
BUT THEN THERE'S ELI ROTH. AND YOU ALL KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT HIM NOW. Especially since he directed a
trailer for Nation's Pride. Lolwut.
So his character. Donny Donowitz. He's a member of the Basterds known as the Bear Jew. His weapon of choice is a baseball bat and what does he like to do with it? Oh, bash in the heads of Nazis and beat them with it. AND IT IS AWESOME. I can't believe I'm saying that but the first introduction of Donny is amazing and you're all: ;fk;lsfgks;lh; /foams at the mouth
And then he beats a Nazi. And you can't look away because of how awesomely disgusting and painful it looks. And because Eli Roth is freaking sexy as hell. OH GOOD GOD I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THESE THOUGHTS. But I can't help it. Mmm, Donny.
I was sad to see his character die BUT HE TOTALLY HAD THE BEST SEND-OFF OF ALL. AND HE KILLED HITLER. OH, AND I REALLY LOVE TARANTINO FOR CHANGING HISTORY AND HAVING SOMEONE KILL HITLER. THAT'S AWESOME. And this film is exaggerated and awesome enough for that to be okay. Plus the fact that Hitler dies by Eli Roth shooting him repeatedly in the face with a machine gun was oddly poetic and awesome. And him pretending him to be Italian was adorable. And that look on his face when he realizes Hitler is there and he can kill him. AND HIM WITH EVERYTHING OMG. AWESOME.
I clearly can't stop using the word awesome. BUT THAT IS THE BEST WORD TO DESCRIBE THIS FILM.
OKAY. I'M IN LOVE. I CAN'T HELP IT. I said District 9 was phenomenal and it was BUT THIS FILM. SO. FREAKING. EPIC.
Recommend this movie to other people?: GOOD GOD YES.

II. So I was a bit bummed today because I took my laptop to Staples for a free tune-up and won't get it back for a couple of days. That film totally made everything better. I mean, I still wish I had my laptop instead of having to use my parents computer but a free tune-up is always nice. Nothing's wrong with my laptop but getting the dust cleaned and the laptop boosted for free is never something to turn down.
EDIT: They're done with my laptop! That was fast. Unfortunatel they closed at seven. :| Why did I elave my phone in the livng room while I was in the office? I'll just go pick it up in the morning but for the rest of the night, I am commandeering my parents' computer!
III. HERE. HAVE AN INTERVIEW WITH THE CAST. INCLUDING ELI ROTH WHO IS CLEARLY ON THE BRAIN. AND THE INTERVIEWER TOTALLY AGREES THAT WE'RE ALL CHARMED BY HANS LANDA.
