"The path is alive."

So you guys all know how long and how much I've been waiting for this film. And clearly I'm too protective of it. But as I've finally seen it (it only took about five years or so), it means it is now time to flail.

Starring: Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, Ayelet Zurer, Stellan Skarsgard, Pierfrancesco Favino, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, and Armin Mueller-Stahl
Directed By:Ron Howard

THEY DIDN'T KISS. ROBERT AND VITTORIA. NO KISS. NO YOGA MASTERS. NO RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCES. I FELT LIKE CRYING. ROBERT AND SOPHIE GOT MORE SUBSTANCE IN THE DAVINCI CODE, WTF.

So there were some major changes for the film:

• The Vatican contacts Robert about the Illuminati, not Koehler at CERN which kind of failed because that's one thing to detract from Robert and Vittoria's initial relationship. And there's no mention of Vittoria's father or anything like that.
• Hassassin didn't kidnap Vittoria.
• Robert didn't go up in the helicopter with the Camerlengo.

All these things that defined Robert and Vittoria's relationship were not there. They totally misused Vittoria's character. Vittoria, who's like my favourite female character ever and I have a girl-crush on her and she has her own tag, AND SHE WASN'T BAMF. I really wanted to cry.

There was nothing that brought her and Robert together. All the moments in the book where she and Robert relied on one another and where they thought the other might be dead which makes them realize how much they mean to one another. WOULD IT HAVE KILLED YOU TO INCLUDE SOME CANON ROMANCE, RON HOWARD? I'M GOING TO COME BEAT YOU WITH A STICK. They stuck with a thriller story rather than incorporate the layers that Dan Brown presented in the novel, save for with the Camerlengo's story. There was no emotional attachment for Vittoria and I felt like her character was just missing for half the film. HER EPIC BAMFINESS WAS NOT THERE. I REPEAT: I WANTED TO CRY.

As a stand-alone thriller film, it was fantastic. I was practically hyperventilating throughout it, despite the fact that I knew what would happen. If I wasn't so protective of this story and these characters, the film could have been near flawless.

BUT FREAKING DAN BROWN HAD TO GO AND MAKE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH ROBERT AND VITTORIA AND EVERYTHING THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS THAT I HAVE TO COMPLAIN. I like to stand by the theory that novels and films are different and we need to treat them as such. Films are supposed to entertain and as long as they do that, however well they follow the original story, they have succeeded.

BUT CLEARLY I'M A HYPOCRITE WHEN IT COMES TO ANGELS & DEMONS. WHY DID YOU HAVE TO MAKE ME LOVE IT SO MUCH, DAN BROWN? WHYYYYY? I don't even know what else to say. They ruined my ship. MY OTP.

D: RIP, MY YOGA MASTER AND SYMBOLOGIST. YOU'LL ALWAYS BE ALIVE IN MY HEART AND IN THE NOVEL. ♥

I'm such a cry-baby, I'm sorry. The film was good and the music was to die (hello, Hans Zimmer!) which is why I already have the soundtrack. As I said, I liked it as a stand-alone but I just can't treat this film like any old thing, as most of you know. You all know how much Dan Brown and his novels, especially this one, mean to me. I felt satisfied at the end for having been entertained and loving Robert and Vittoria because while they were totally misused, I do still love them. AND SERIOUSLY, AYELET ZURER AS MY BELOVED VITTORIA WAS GORGEOUS. I LOVE HER. I'D TOTALLY FLIP FOR HER. EVEN THOUGH VITTORIA'S NOT REAL. AND ACTUALLY IN LOVE WITH ROBERT. Seems I'm screwed.

Ewan McGregor was fantastic. I felt like his character was given the most depth and he portrayed Carlo brilliantly. WTF was up with him being an Irish guy named Patrick, though?

TOTALLY UNDERUSED THE HASSASSIN, WTF. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO KIDNAP VITTORIA, NEARLY DO NAUGHTY THINGS TO HER, AND ROBERT WAS SUPPOSED TO GET SO WORRIED AND THEN SAVE HER. LIKE THIS:

Directly in front of him, framed in the opening of the balcony, stood the Hassassin. He was bare chested, standing over Vittoria, who lay bound but very much alive. Langdon felt a wave of relief to see her. For an instant, their eyes met, and a torrent of emotions flowed - gratitude, desperation, and regret.

WHERE WAS MY TORRENT OF EMOTION, RON HOWARD? AND MY FREAKING HELICOPTER KISS.

In the hallway outside the Sistine Chapel, Vittoria Vetra sat benumbed on the bench at the foot of the Royal Staircase. When she saw the figure coming through the rear door, she wondered if she were seeing another spirit. He was bandaged, limping, and wearing some kind of medical suit.

She stood...unable to believe the vision. "Ro...bert?"

He never answered. He strode directly to her and wrapped her in his arms. When he pressed his lips to hers, it was an impulsive, longing kiss full of thankfulness.

Vittoria felt the tears coming. "Oh, God...oh, thank God..."

He kissed her again, more passionately, and she pressed against him, losing herself in his embrace. Their bodies locked, as if they had known each other for years. She forgot the fear and pain. She closed her eyes, weightless in the moment.

OMG READING THIS MAKES ME WANT TO CRY. IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO BEAUTIFUL IN THE FILM. AND WHAT HAPPENED TO LIKE THE MOST EPIC ENDING EVER?

Vittoria slipped off her robe. "You've never been to bed with a yoga master, have you?"

WHERE WAS THAT, HUH?

Okay. I'm making this out to be like the worst movie ever. It really wasn't. It was exciting and thrilling and I loved watching it and I enjoyed it more than The DaVinci Code - but let's face it: I never would have been fully satisfied unless it was followed word for word and that wasn't going to happen. So I did like it. Truly, I did. BUT OMG VITTORIA! D:

Recommend this movie to other people?: Most definitely. It captured the essence of Dan Brown and it was a great film, I'm just going to always be really picky because it's one of my favourite novels.

PS: I still wonder about Robert's dream about Vittoria in Angels & Demons and the fact that they're married in the dream. AND THAT ROBERT THINKS ABOUT HER IN THE DAVINCI CODE. SHE SHOULD JUST COME BACK FOR THE LOST SYMBOL AND MARRY ROBERT. MAKE MY LIFE COMPLETE AGAIN. BECAUSE I NEED MORE VITTORIA IN MY LIFE. So - totally going out on a limb here and hoping more than anything that she's in The Lost Symbol.
