"Without Fail" is finished, has 7 chapters and smut (the audience goes "what?!?!").
If anybody wondered why I chose an island as location: I know zilch about ships. I don't even like being on one. I love being in the water, but you'll find it difficult to get me on anything that's on the water.
I spent a good part of my spare time these last days doing research on things I'd never thought I'd ever research. The things you could get hanged for in the 17th century... special thanks go to Eveiya for her helpful hints about goats and, hm, things.
Then I had some people who subscribed to my mailing list complaining because I posted the updates for "Without Fail" to that list as well. Hel-lo, list for updates on my writing! I don't think one fic qualifies as "abandoning LOTR ship"! No mention of the two LOTR fics I posted over the weekend either. Sometimes I really wonder if people think I'm some kind of fanfic-vending-machine (pssst, hot tip: I'm NOT. And I hate being ordered around, thank you). More complaints will lead to Womble fic. You've been warned.
But now that Mr. Turner and Mr. Norrington have been taken care of (much to their satisfaction, I dare say), I need your help and memory: when I was a little girl (very little, we talk kindergarten here), I only watched very few TV shows. The mandatory two TV shows for kiddies, later on "Star Trek" (big crush on Mr. Spock - it's the ears! The ears I tell you!) plus two shows which my mother loved and I watched "from the corner of my eye" while I played on the carpet in the living room.
One was "Upstairs-Downstairs" (yeah, yeah, I know), the other was, I think, a Brit-show as well. It was about a family who had ships, were constantly at war with each other and the men all had ridiculous whiskers. Looking at it today, I think it could have been set in the 18th century. There was one captain (I think) who looked a lot like Mr. Gibbs in POTC. I remember there were some amazing "on sea" scenes.
Does anybody out there have an idea what the name of that TV series could have been? For the life of me I can't remember the title or the name of the characters, and that's driving me bonkers! And why can't I remember that name, while I can still sing the Wombles song, darn it?
Harrump.

Edited to add: THE ONEDIN LINE IT WAS! Thanks for helping me out here!
