so erestor/glorfindel has become well-liked. a good reason to dislike the pairing! the indie-band nobody but you and your friends loved has become popular, and now you have to burn their cds. a new speshul sekrit band has to be found, so that the elitary needs may be fulfiled

Of course as an opposite I can also say that there are writers that are uncomfortable about posting different cahracterisations of dear Erestor because the common version of him is so established in fanfiction and that, in my opinion, is at least as much of a crime.
You got me on a soapbox with this subject *lol* I just really detest lectures on what people can and cannot write. There are stories I do not like, it is easy, I do not read them... it is not harder than that. Let people enjoy themselves and grow up, writing is not about what NAMES you put on characters, it is about what is behind and around the names..
Ok I will try to stop babbling now before i embarrass myself

I know what you mean. there where quite some arched eyebrows when I published "shelter". het-erestor? abandoning his child? TEH HORROR!
but for every person complaining about "that's not the erestor I like" there will be one who will say "oh! I like this new erestor". authors should not worry about "what people say" (it's something one shouldn't do in general, I think). there is criticism, and there is praise. erestor as a balrog is an excellent idea - wish I'd had it! :-D
the discussion we've recently had on the erestor-list was good, though. people have the right to say "I'm tired of whiny erestor". who knows? maybe this gave the one or the other author an impulse?
as I've previously mentioned: I can only write what I have in my head, and my fantasy and imagination are not ruled by the demands of elitists.
and you don't embarrass yourself at all. you make a lot of sense!

I guess I just like new ideas and theories. I really did like Shelter a lot and I adore the latest series :)
I have encouraged one writer in particular to post her different Erestor lately, she is writing the fic anyway but is insecure about sharing it and that, i think is sad. As for Balrogs, I dond't do humour so I do weird angst ;)
I enjoyed the discussion on the Erestor list, discussion is a good thing that will hopefully always make people think about things one way or another, thinking, despite what some people believes, is good.

I think that is what I tried to say as well. I can't really write on demand, I wrote the elves that move into my head (yes i know how that sounds)
And glad to hear that I made sense for once *lol*
*hugs again*
thanks for a lovely and interesting discussion
