so erestor/glorfindel has become well-liked. a good reason to dislike the pairing! the indie-band nobody but you and your friends loved has become popular, and now you have to burn their cds. a new speshul sekrit band has to be found, so that the elitary needs may be fulfiled ( Read more... )

*applauds*

Erestor. Truer words have never been spoken, er, written.

I gripped about this with my flatmate just the other day. I was talking about one of my favorite bands and how when I spoke to another one of our mutual friends, she use to love them but now hated them because they became "mainstream".

I mean, What the Mandos' fuzzy bunny slippers does that have to do with anything??

So...Your band that you love made it. They have the big contract, lots of people are listening to them. You should be happy. But nooo. You have to drop them like a bad habit because it is the "unmainstream"/"elitist" thing to do. Nuts to that.

I have always loved the Legolas/Aragorn pairing. I know that they are overdone. But I still love that pairing. It upsets me when I get replies to my stories that are "Why are you still into this pairing? it is sooooo mainstream!"

*fumes*

I don't care what they think. I like what I like. If it makes me a "mainstream poser", eh well. It doesn't bother me none.

I love my Erestor/Glorfindel lovins. Mainstream or not.

Sly ^^

fully agree! I get equally annoyed with the "I hate orlando bloom, and that's why I don't like legolas anymore" crowd. good grief, don't these people have an imagination they can use? is it really that difficult to read "lord of the rings" and NOT think of orlando bloom? especially if one doesn't like it? meh. I think very often it's complaining for the complaining's sake, and to proof that one is "special".

well, I prefer to stay a peasant. :)

...granted, I'm one of the "Yuk! Orlando Bloom!" people and I truly do not like Movie!Legolas (He comes off as a complete dumb-ass and all the things that I loved about him in the book were watered down or surgically removed) but they need to come to terms with the fact that the Book and the Movies are two very different canons.

Complaining for complainings sake can be fun, but you have to do it right. Bitching about big things (OMG! Haldir's at Helms-deep!) is no fun, it gets worn down very easily. The little things, however...(Gandalf's supposed to whistle 3 times for Shadowfax, not 2)...are extremely amusing. See what you can find! Get drunk while you do it!

oh yes, nitpicking can be fun (wingend balrogs, mmmmmm!) but as soon as things are taken too serious, they are not fun anymore but boring. at least to me. I have the low attention span of a trout, anything that takes weeks to dissect makes my brain boggle.

I can go for a few days, but not weeks.

Unless it's highly amusing to do so. *grins*

P.S They don't have wings!

I rampage on occassion. The funniest example I can think of was when my internet was down and I wanted to know how old Elrond was.

8 hours and 3 books later I found it. It was 3 in the morning. Oops.

P.S. They DON'T! It's a METAPHOR!

I remember this (he was born 50 years before the ending of the 1st Age). In 3021, the year he departs oversea, he is 6512 years old. *feels geeky*

P.S. "...the dark shadow spread out about it like two vast wings..." It's a simile. There are no wings there.

ah - I interpet this as the wings were shadow-like. plus: how did the balrogs get to lammoth? hitch-hiking on wargs? walking? no - they flew. because they had wings. :)

And they had Orc body guards. How's that going to work? They can't carry them a'cause they'll burn them, they can't make them walk a'cause they'll be left behind. The only conclusion I can come up with is that they don't have any unless the orcs suddenly grew wings but I guess the only way to go about it is to assume that some had wings and some didn't. After all, they were corrupted Maiar, they could change their shape.

Of course, the one that Glorfindel killed fell off a mountain, which brings up the question of why they had something they couldn't use.

*sighs* Touchy topic if I ever heard one...

I suggest we settle for "some had wings, some had not". that way, both parties are happy - what do you think?

as for the orcs - who knows? maybe some of them could fly?
