The Arts Council is sort of Lottery Funded, but is separate and specifically for the Arts. We are currently trying for the more Awards for All scheme, but it is very very difficult and they keep sending the forms back for more information. Which is great that they are so careful with the money, but really difficult for the people applying. I suspect that even after we jump through all the hoops we'll probably be too late for the application (it takes 7 weeks to process I think, but I don't know when that starts from). Thanks for the thought.
Wow. I really wish I had something more concrete to offer, like 6g or an in with a company that could fund you guys, but all I have to offer is my thoughts and prayers.
I think with any "Institutional" funding time is against you at this stage, due to funding cycles. Having said that the amount your looking for is quite small, so there might be "pots" that could be released relatively quickly.
The scottish parliament, have a specific relationship with southern africa - Malawi in principle, but also now expanding to other countries - however you're performing in England not scotland...
I'd suggest looking for companies/trusts/individuals with a strong Zimbabwe link...
Thanks for that hon. We have had a fundraiser go over the trusts and foundations for us earlier in the year when we started applying to them and we are now down to our last couple of trusts having either been rejected or follow ups disappearing into silence.
This is why I'm asking from a personal contact kind of way, although of course if someone has a personal contact at a funding body which might help, then I'm more than happy to follow it up. It seems to be down to individuals and companies now and I am just praying that I can find the right personal to ask, because I am sure they are out there, I just haven't found them yet.
Sounds like a wonderful project and I wish you luck finding the extra money. You already got the arts council (which is rare as rocking horse poo). I wish i could come up with something else, but all i can think of is writing to very rich (the very few) politically sympathetic actors) they give money occasionally!
It is pretty much down to that at the moment. We have approached a few people, but will have to swallow all pride and ego and ask everyone we can think of. Thanks for your good wishes.
*gentle question* Is this a serious suggestion? */gentle question* The internet is so poor at conveying intention and Rio Tinto is one of those multinational companies that you have to be careful of, that I feel I need to ask the question. It is important for us to be funded ethically as well as funded. For example I refused to go to De Beers for funding, and Rio Tinto does Diamonds too, so I am not overly confident they would meet the ethical test. Do you know something I don't? (which is entirely possible)
If they are ok, then I'm happy to approach, although it is always better if you have a contact within the company already to make a more personal connection with the project. If not, then I'm busily looking elsewhere.
Off the top of my head it occurred to me that the best way to find funding for this project is if you pick a large company who regard this amount of money as small, who are currently operating in Zimbabwe and maintaining a fine political balance internationally. Your best hope of funding is not necessarily to approach socially responsible groups but to approach companies who require projects like yours to maintain an ethical position. I can understand why you don't want to go for that though but if it gets to crunch point it might be worth trying. They need the good publicity and you can provide it.
Oh and you could try Michael Solomon at See. Sorry I don't have a direct email address but if he asks why you approached them tell him you're aware they contribute a prize to the Edge Upstarts awards and that an ex-employee of the New Statesman suggested you give them a go. I don't know if they ever fund projects but I don't think it would do any harm to ring and ask.

I'm mostly ignorant, but not offended at all.
