First off: If Mom asks, this is totally part of my homework. *nodnod*
So, continuing with the Massive Weekend of Much Theater, last night was Beauty and the Beast at CCMT. It was nice, and very pretty, but I was a little dissappointed in the choreography. I mean, this was a group almost entirely comprised of semi-professional dancers, but in general I preferred the choreography and staging of the one Mom was in at Neighborhood last summer. Megan was a good Belle though, and Emily G. was in the dance ensemble and fun to watch as always. And their "Transformation" was very well done. Mrs. Potts seemed too young, and (one of my biggest pet peeves) her accent was inconsistent. In my opinion, the first rule of accents is: if you can't do it all the way, don't do it.
To start off today, the sermon was quite interesting. Steve wasn't there, as we had a guest speaker. Out comes this heavy, heavily accented Egyptian man who speaks even faster than I do. He gave a very intersting message on what Christians need to know to evangelize to Muslims. He was a lot of fun, and wow did he have energy! I was worn out just watching him. (Well, and I had a strange dream last night, but we'll get to that.)
Suzanne Vega makes me happy. Even her depressing stuff. ("Songs in Red and Gray" and "Soap and Water", anyone?)
Moving on, this afternoon we saw Robert S. in Jekyll and Hyde (which was a wierd combination of songs from the OBC and the Complete Recording. It's like the "Assemble Your Own" musical.) He was wonderful. At the end of "Once Upon a Dream" he was curled up in a little ball sobbing on the floor and it made me want to cry; on the other hand he even made me jump a little in some of his Hyde stuff. Overall though, the production was disappointing. Emma seemed to be fighting for pitch, and Lucy had a lovely voice, but was entirely inconsistent in her accent. (Grah! It makes me want to utterly perfect my Standard British accent for Wardrobe.) Utterson and Nellie were realy good though.
Does anyone know if "H. P. Lovecraft's pocketwatch" has any special significance? I had a really creepy dream involving that and a black widow spider last night, but I can't think of anything that would have triggered either. (I can usually identify all my dream triggers). Unfortunately, my Lovecraft semi-expert is still in So Cal killing Nancy in Oliver!. Maybe I'll e-mail him anyway and ask him about it.
B-b-b-b-That's all for now, folks!
