DHL

I used to think UPS was the most incompetent shipping organization on the planet. UPS, I have found your dim witted bastard brother: DHL.

My sister-in-law shipped us a package of gifts on Monday, December 17. They arrived in Greensboro on December 19 and apparently reflected out for delivery on that day. They were marked out for delivery on December 20. They were also marked out for delivery today. Guess what? Nobody showed up on any of those days. I would have done something about it before tonight, but I didn't really know much about this before then. My sister-in-law has apparently been checking on this via the tracking information and figured since the items were out for delivery, they were actually being delivered.

That would be a stupid assumption to make with DHL, apparently. When I finally got through to somebody who would deign answer my telephone call (a challenge in and of itself), my phone was about to die. I asked that she call me back. She took the number but chose not to do so. She was less than sure she would do so, but I have worked call centers enough to know this is not a problem to do, even when calls are on hold. Instead, I had to get our cell phone and call back. That was another half hour wasted. Once I had the second rep on the line, she informed me that they had a "delivery backlog" and therefore had not been trying to deliver our package after all. Lovely. She offered that they'd be super sure to deliver it on Monday, but I'm not going to be here! Imagine that. When asked if they could reroute the package to where I'll be, she indicated it would then arrive on December 26. I'll be back here by then.

No solutions were offered. The CSR offered to take a message for her supervisor and to open a complaint with the local branch. I took her up on it since I was getting nowhere with her.

Don't trust anything with these people. Send your packages by USPS. Strangely, I have never had a problem with them. FedEx is also good -- I've had issues with the people who have sent items by FedEx, but FedEx themselves have always been up to the task they have been asked to perform. Even UPS will deliver the package if it actually arrives -- all my troubles with them have been related to packages getting strangely routed. I don't know what sort of price DHL offers that makes people decide to choose them, but it's not worth it.
