BDAG love!

Happy Valentine's Day, from of all places, M. Louis Salmon Library!

I came by here after lunch to check on some readings from the Church Fathers and some St. Bernard of Clairvaux (the probable subject of my term paper this semester), and on a whim, I fed the search engine "Danker".

And lo and behold, we have a copy of the BDAG (the Bauer-Danker Greek lexicon, A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature). I have looked for this book before, and could have sworn we didn't have it, must to my consternation. How could Oakwood College have it and not us, a major university? But it was here all along; it just wasn't with the dictionaries. It was on the religion reference shelf. I should have trusted the catalog - but no, a real man never asks for directions.

This makes me very happy. I was this close (*gestures with thumb and index finger*) to buying the thing for $120. This is only the second edition, but it's a far cry better than nothing. And peasant_hero should have one reason less to be on my case. Now I can instead spend my money on books to help me learn the language.

I copied out the entries for πορνεια and ακαθαρσια, which were more substantial than had been cited to me, and for ασελγεια, which should have me set for the rest of Galatians 5:19. This discovery will bear a lot of fruit.
