As you know, I've been a big fan of the Harry Potter books for about a year now. Now, I'm sure this has been thought of before - I know there are books out there on looking for Christian messages in Harry Potter - but because I haven't read those books, and probably won't, you're going to get my take on this.

That's a really interesting (and apt) comparison. Could probably even be drawn out further too...like the "magic" community has more awareness between the relationship between their community and the "muggle" community than the muggles apparently do...or... I know I've made posts before about the weirdness of how christianese sometimes seems like a parallel universe very similar to our own...but seperate and different.

I actually have read one of those how harry potter supports the gospels books, as well as having read some criticisms of the books, and pretty much have come to the conclusion that you take from the series what you want to take from it. If you're going to be influenced by the wizards magic to be lured into trying occult things, Harry Potter would be an unwise choice. If on the other hand, you realize that we're only muggles and therefore aren't even supposed to know such magic exists...and focus more on how can I compare and contrast the good vs. evil in this story to the story of creation...you might actually get some great concrete examples of certain relgious principles. And really all those books do is go through some of those examples and parallels, so its not exactly life or death as to whether you read those :)
