As you know, I've been a big fan of the Harry Potter books for about a year now. I don't know. I'm sure somewhere, there may be deeper meaning in Harry Potter, but I think people do look too hard. In Narnia, it's all very easy to see, and C.S. Lewis was a thousand times the writer J.K. Rowling is.

Yeah, I thought of Islam as I was writing this. I think those kind of things are bound to grow up around any kind of group or subculture that in one way or another is separate from mainstream society. There are bookstores that sell nothing but engineering books, and bookstores that sell nothing but gay-interest books, and Muslim bookstores, and Christian bookstores, and Jewish bookstores. Where there's a large enough group to have a need or interest for something, someone will come along to meet the need. When I was in Rome, I saw dozens of stores down near the Vatican selling nothing but church paraphenalia and clerical vestments. I think it's a fascinating phenomenon.

Yeah, there is a lot of Christian symbolism in all sorts of movies and literature, too, whether it's supposed to have explicit religious connotations or not. Everybody loves the idea of a martyr sacrificing himself to save humanity, his friends, or whoever. It's very poetic.

I actually made a glossary for reading your journal. ;-) I find it all very interesting, and have been reading some about Islam trying to keep up.

Interesting!

Yeah, I agree.

Don't ever be shy to ask if you need to understand the meaning of something or whatever. :)
