I have decided to attempt the unspeakable: to cook a meal, on my own, with no adult supervision. Pray that I don't burn the house down.
But what should I cook? I really don't have any idea. I suppose I could go thumb through Aunt Laura's cookbooks, but I thought I would make it a little more fun and request recipes from you all. If it sounds good, I may very well cook it. Or die trying.
I'm looking for fairly simple recipes that are fit for a beginner, that won't take more than a few hours at the most to prepare (also accounting for the fact that it will probably take me quite a while to figure out what I'm doing). Also, a few more guidelines:
- Should contain some meat, preferably one of the following: chicken, beef (not veal), pork.
- Ingredients should be available at a typical grocery store (I'll probably go to Publix or Super Target).
- Should involve only the standard kitchen cooking equipment. I have a gas range stove, an oven, and a microwave. There are probably other things around (e.g. crockery), but I don't know where they are.
- Instructions should be simple, without a lot of technical cooking terms that I won't understand.
- Should be hard to screw up. The less likely I am to injure myself or someone else, or to ruin my meal, the better.
So if you have some favorite recipes you can type up without too much trouble, or links to some on the Web, could you please send them? Also please suggest some side dishes. I'd like to cook some vegetables, but really don't know anything about that, either.
Thanks! If I get some good ideas, I'll probably do it tomorrow night.
