It’s not the best best WAR you’ll find around, but I think it’s a pretty darn good start for someone who’s never had a heavy armor 2hander job. Major goals for WAR improvements include getting lots o merits, getting a fortitude torque (also helps blu!), scrounging up some better weaponskill gear, and leveling polearm (currently: 162) for various piercing-weak camps. If I make really good progress on these goals I will consider swapping out my dagger merits for great axe ones.

LBC tore me apart, but Mighty Strikes + Spy’s Drink = good times, while they lasted. Apparently WAR is a desirably salvage job so I finally have a job to go to salvage on that won’t leave me tearing out my hair.
My WAR is filling the “pure physical DD” slot very nicely; even unmerited, damage is higher than my BLU in most situations. Of course, WAR doesn’t have healing, multiple stuns and sleeps, most every debuff, self-skillchains, and all the nice BLU toys I’ve grown to love. So my BLU is far from obsolete; its ability to fill multiple roles makes it very valuable in low-man situations, such as…
… my pseudo-static Limbus group. Shadi came up with a brilliant idea a bit ago: we split off from the main linkshell Limbus groups to low-man another zone and give the chip to the LS. It’s win-win for everyone; our group gets to hand-choose members and jobs to ensure we’re going with friends and competent players and we keep all the coins, and the LS gets the chips which leads to faster Ultima and Omega pops, plus their runs also have less members so they get more coins there too. We’ve done three zones so far, the legendary Apollyon NE, Temenos North, and Temenos West. Not much to report about the other two runs other than I’m really glad I go BLU to these since BLU is a very good “clean up crew” job when mistakes happen.
Finally got enough merits to put the grueling 5 > 5 > 5 into No Foot Rise to finish it off. I’m thinking I will put the last 3 tier-2s I have available into Closed Position. A little hypocritical of me since I’ve been swearing up and down that it’s useless, but after soloing on DNC enough I decided that I don’t really need lower Fan and Saber timers. I’d actually be okay stopping here on DNC if I hadn’t sworn I’d cap DNC merits fully in some previous entry, so I might as well try to make the best of it.
Recent dyna drops. Got the PLD and BLU in a pretty good glacier run and picked up the -1 BLU hands in Valk. I’d probably upgrade the BLU stuff I have if they didn’t require expensive O broznepieces, but since they do and my money is always tight, they will be waiting a while. Both armors are manequin pieces; got PLD freelot and BLU at the very end of the list, so I'm not taking them from anyone who would use, as per my general freelot lootwhoring policy.

Unfortunately AXI’s doing no Jeunos and one wasted DL Xarc run this month, so that puts a stranglehold on the likelihood of me getting much relic in May.
This dropped in the last few minutes of Tav and went free lot. I mainly lotted for this screenshot. Don’t worry, it didn’t go wasted; the actual item is totally without redeeming feature.
Kisa finally got her Askar head! Maybe now she’ll stop glaring at me when I use mine. Though, as these screenshots show, it’s going to good use on my WAR. Also, wtf Swordbreakers. We're still doing 4 Nyzuls a week, though progress is somewhat bothered by the lack of a 6th static member.
Weird weird occurrence in a level synch party. We were fighting birds at level 53, which is already uncomfortably low, when the level synch target died, deleveled, and dragged us down to 52, which is DEFINITELY too low. The fight ended okay; he got a raise and we killed the bird and it was an okay party, but it was still strange enough to warrant a screenshot.
Great DRK duo or greatest DRK duo?! Kisa said she wanted to level DRK to 37 (the reason is too odd to explain properly) and I decided to hitch along, so we’ve been leveling DRKstogether every step of the way. Occasionally general riff-raff tags along with us, as seen here. Two DRKs, a PUP, a THF, a DRG, a DNC, a wyvern, an automation, and two PLs. Yeah, it was a pretty motley crew. Despite engaging every mob together, our actual exp varies; at one point I was ahead of her by about 500 exp, and at the moment she’s about 30 ahead of me. Clearly level synch or fields of valor or maybe just the actual game itself has a few bugs left.
We’re level 23 at the moment. Let’s see if we can keep synching down and never leave the dunes EVAR!
Between classes and when I haven’t felt like FFXI I’ve been playing through FFVI again. I named all the characters after people I talk to on game based on jobs leveled and personality style. Some of them aren’t super-awesome great matches, but most are at least pretty close. Cookies to anyone that can name the characters that aren’t listed. Here are the player names for the other eight non-secret characters in alphabetical order: Izzybella, Jags, Kailani, Lehant, Rushou, Shadida, Valiant, Wiseman.
There is another topic I want to talk about, regarding Einherjar, but that entry is going to be friends-list only, the first time I’m doing that, because I have a big enough bullzeye on my forehead as is right now.
