A Crystalline Failure

Apr 09, 2009 13:35

I cannot BELIEVE I paid ten bucks for this bullshit! I paid my good money to be forced into farming not one, not two, but SIX stupid-ass items from weak mobs against dozens of competing players. And after that, then what? There’s only like two fights in the entire expansion! People got it done the very first night! So much for two weeks of content.

I got this for the “right reasons;” not just because they were advertising armors at the end, but wanting to experience new storylines and fun battles and stuff. So much for that. Sad part is, even with augmentations, the body armors aren’t really any good for any of the jobs I play very often. They sure as hell don't replace a Noble's tunic or a Morrigan's robe! So I'm feeling very abused about this at the moment.

“It’s not SE’s fault that everyone’s rushing the content now. It’s the players’ fault!”

Oh BS. If SE thought people wouldn’t want to try the new expansion content en mass upon release, than they have no business running a multibillion dollar company. You and I know darn well that the pacing and events of the expansion were planned on purpose. SE INTENTIONALLY created this bottleneck at the beginning to INTENTIONALLY make it take longer for players to get going on the content in a vague attempt to make the expansion content take longer.

“Just wait a few days until all the rushers get it out of their system.”

Pretty much. But I shouldn’t HAVE TO. I didn’t have to wait a few days to start doing promyvions. I didn’t have to wait to sign up to be a mercenary and start doing assaults. I didn’t have to wait to start doing campaigns.

I’m generally okay with the “less content at lower prices released more often” approach to expansions, but I think this is abusing the concept a little. The fact this “mini-expansion” has so little content that it makes Wings of the Goddess’s release content look like a treasure trove of awesomeness in comparison. It’s entirely a short sequence of missions, many of them cutscenes, to get the reward body armor. That’s really it. No quests, no new areas, no optional battlefield fights, and no room for future updates. What you buy is what you get, and it ain’t a hell of a lot.

"What were you really expecting?"

* More missions
* More BCNM fights
* More clever design with the content other than "kill mobs until they drop lol"
* Less cockblock at the beginning disgused as content
* Maybe a new zone or two (but that would require actual WORK for the progammers apparently, totally unacceptable!)

I mean, isn't that what everyone was expecting? Something to have a lil fun with and a cool item at the end? I don't think I'm being unreasonable here. If you're going to advertise something as having only mission content, it's not unfair to expect the missions to be a little higher quality than this rubbish!

For the love of God, unless the body armor is simply amazing for one of your jobs (and even then, I’d still recommend not buying it out of protest) don’t waste your cash. This has about as much lasting content to it as Pankration. Actually, that’s not even being fair to the people that like raising their little Pokemons. Man, I can’t even think of an event with less content than that. A new low has been reached!

If this is what these mini-expansions are going to be made of, the moogles and that stupid black mage taru can take their ten buck pricetags and shove them.

There’s a lot of other lawl-ing going on with this update, but I’ll save that until I’ve explored the content a bit more. At least the WHM update thing turned out really nice!

UPDATE:

The ??? spot vital for progressing with the missions has been replaced by this fucker. So not only does the content suck, but it's BEEN BROKEN ALL DAY. In the end, it's the "kupo!" on the end that pisses me off. It's like SE's saying they fucked up but they're trying to do it in a happy way. God.

acp, sigh, damnit, mission
