EreRant #8: Why Erecia Hates the Japs

This is a topic I’ve been wanting to talk about for some time. It’s a delicate subject, and so I’m handing it in the way that I feel is best: by being as bluntly honest as I can from the get-go. Go ahead and flame me if you want. Honestly, if I haven’t offended at least one person’s sensibilities with this, I don’t think I did my job.

While I can see what you mean for a few things, I disagree with a lot of it. I won't comment on your relationships with the JP population, since it's obviously a personal thing. I don't have a problem with JP players, but then again most of the JP I've met have been fairly polite. Perhaps I'm lucky, I don't know.

First, I agree with you about the NM system on the whole. In my opinion, all NMs should be either forced pop (like most quests, or things like Parade Gorget/Rostrum Pumps), or the drop to be 100% like it is for Charby. That way, you either don't have to worry about competition, or you choose to try and outclaim people, knowing for certain that if you manage to do so, you'll get the drop for certain. What we have currently for most NM's does neither, and that's why its often such a pain. Regarding endgame drops, certainly some drop rates need to be buffed (Salvage, particularly). Land kings could probably use a complete overhaul as well.

Complaining about the ferry/airship times seems a little strange to me. Surely you could go afk and do something else if you're really worried about losing those few minutes? And as for your gripe about not being able to get anything done, most jobs can solo fairly well since dancer was introduced into the game. I find it ironic in a sense that you, with dancer at 75 and one of your preferred jobs, should be the one to rant about this. Even before, you had Bst, Pup, Drg/Mage, Rdm, and even Blu to a degree that could all solo well. It's unfair to say you can't get anything done on your own. And also because it is at heart a multi-player game, at least for the serious stuff. And I think you've said yourself that your ideal scenario is where you take on some cool challenge, with your friends, and everybody getting something good out of it?

I don't see the Japanese entertainment industry as worse, just different. But then, I do like the Japanese style of game more then something like GTA or Guitar Hero, I admit. It's like Relic/Mythic weapons, which are the perfect example of what you've discussed here- a massive investment for a large reward. Minus the Salvage requirement for mythics, which I see as insane, I like the way those were set up. I like the challenge that comes with a tricky mission or quest, planning a strategy, and getting my friends to come tackle it with me. And I'm usually not thinking "Hey, this is far more complicated then it should be." I'm having fun as it is. And I doubt I'm the only non-JP player who thinks that way.
