EreRant #1

This is a difficult subject to start with, as it’s a bit esoteric, cannot be universally applied, and in fact completely breaks down on the small scale to the point of being blatantly untrue. Still, the concept here is vital to understanding most of my future EreRants. You don’t have to agree with what I’m proposing, but at least hear me out.

I have been saying the same thing to people for years. So many people gawk at the sight of a large hnm/limbus shell with members that seem to have 'no life' in their words. Yet I had the privilege of doing several Nyzul Isle assault runs on floors 16-20 with these so-called 'leet' players. The players were the typical decked out in Homam, Relic wielding, insanely rich HNM players. Only one problem. These players were so stuck up and sucked in to their ego-black hole that half the time they had this 'do what i want when i want' attitude. I don't know if you do Nyzul Isle, but the last thing you want to say on a Nyzul run is "I'll do what I want to do" I like to view High-tier shells and playsers in two categories. category 1) this player excels at their job so well that they are are very efficient at missions/dynamis/etc, so they are welcomed by high-tier shells and are therefor welcomed with gear and gil. Now for category 2) The ignorant, pushy, chauvinistic ass hole high-tier player. The player that is so decked out in 'leet' ( ... )

I've only done Nyzul Isle a few times as I'm nowhere near coordinated enough to do both that and Salvage. But, from the few times I did it, I got a gist of how EXTREMELY time crunched the whole thing is. You really gotta work together as a team, especially on some of the awkward floors (lamps, I'm looking at you). There's absolutely no time for people to be showboating and being a loner. The three times I went to Nyzul we won the runs, but it was always close and I was with experienced groups. I see how unreliable people could be causing you trouble there...

Thanks for the comment. Been a while since I recieved any and I was beginning to wonder if anyone read this anymore. I've got a few more EreRants lined up in over the next couple days so maybe check 'em out.

I agree with this 300%, Ere. I experience it first hand on my Sam. Now my gear, at least in my opinion, is as average as can be (Hachi gear cept af legs and wyvern helm/walahra turban/genbu's kabuto, shinsoku, etc). However: in 90% of the parties and events I go to, I'm praised as the best Sam the group's ever worked with. These are groups with af+1, relic+1, shura, osodes, etc-geared Sams. Hell, one such Sam I pt'ed with tried to tell me that meditating during Meikyo Shisui is pointless...

omg I totally agree with you. My ls refers to that as "Highlvlitis" it's a disease where once you hit level 75 you get affected with negative status effects like "Asshole" and "Snobby"...and you get /lazy. My ls and I love to do Assaults though and I find that probably one of the best ways to determine whether or not people can perform under time limits, pressure, and actually be good at their jobs is to see how well people can do in Assaults, and different ones at that. Especially 60 cap ones :D
