The "Study" Series by Maria V. Snyder

Oct 05, 2009 18:18

My first book review in ages...and it's going to be on a series. The "Study" series is written by Maria V. Snyder and I came across it at the bookstore before I went on vacation (and finally bought them last week and finished reading yesterday). The series is completed, and there are three books in it: Poison Study, Magic Study, and Fire Study.

I saw poison study at the library! Felt very tempted to read but knew it was a series.. and and I couldn't find the other two books =(
You should read Storm Glass though, the main character aquainted with Yelena and the second book Sea Glass is out too =D
Btw, add me? I kinda followed the links from FP cos I was curious how you did for NaNo Wrimo

Hi!

I have Storm Glass on hold at the library. I'm not sure how I feel about the main character being Opal (she felt a bit boring to me during the Study series) but I like Ms. Snyder's writing enough to give it a try.

Apparently the next book (Sea Glass) is also out! :D

I'll add you now - thanks for stopping by!

I love this series! I love Yelena's character and the way Valek is presented. I appreciate the way she sets up governments and plots because they feel real and foreign at the same time.

Have you started her series about Opal? This series also looks promising.

I'm still waiting for a copy of the series about Opal. I was kind of hoping for one with Yelena's brother...but I'll have to be satisfied with Opal. :)

And in answer to your review question:

"I hope you won't mind if I say that I'm feeling that you're a Maria V. Snyder fan. This story has a similar feel to hers. I love her books, so this is a very high compliment."

I read the books near the beginning of last October, and a few days later the idea for Celestia of the Thorns popped into my mind and wouldn't go away. I mused over it, not wanting to risk spoiling my nice little daydream/fantasy by writing it down, but in the end I gave in to temptation during NaNoWriMo.

But yeah...you're right about me being a fan; this one series hooked me on Ms. Snyder's writing, and I can say with complete honesty that my story wouldn't exist if it wasn't for that inspiration.

(Hopefully, I won't overlap too much...)

Thanks for commenting (and reviewing over on FP)!
