Marina Bay Sands (MBS)
Helix bridge, MBS, Arts Science museum
When I walked through the newly developed Marina Bay Sands (MBS) area last week,
I sensed the same sorta buzz, when the esplanade was built.
This good vibe -im guessing, is a result of the dittering if foreign tourists,
and Singaporeans themselves around the area.
People of different age groups dressed in various styles dotted the scenery,
adding to the character of the ingenious architecture. You see the working class,
the colourful umbrellas, and the trendy youth, the old uncles in
their horizontally striped blue, brown and grey shirts.
...togetherness feels like a good thing.
Architecture can make the everyday feel/seem different
An amalgamation of 'the lot'.

and of course, it is so easy to get carried away with 'progress'. The admiring gazes,
the oooohhhs, ahhhhss, and in Singapore, waaaahhs. the amount of GDP all this
adds to our nations income.
But. there are so many other things to consider when looking at a structure and mini-landscape like this.
of course, there are the environmental costs, the social ills of the casino, the consideration of
who benefits etc etc etc .. these are important and critical to monitor to see how they play out
in the context of Singapore.
..However, what I'd like to focus on here, is something more personal - no more important
than the rest of the other elements mentioned above.. why? because it is the voice of a
Singaporean. a citizen. and every individual like me who makes the national fabric of this nation
