Why the hell is this funny?

I haven't posted to my journal in a million years. I decided to give it a make over and will try to add entries frequently.

I've got some kind of nasty bug and haven't been feeling too well. It hit me out of nowhere yesterday. I've got a sore throat and it feels like it's spreading down into my chest. I hope I don't need to go to the doctor for antibiotics. I've gotten chest infections before and they really suck.

So, to the subject of my entry. I'm sitting here watching Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. Family Guy ends and Aqua Teen Hunger Force comes on. Now, this show is really hit and miss with me on its humor. Sometimes I find it hilarious, other times boring. I'm not a person who is easily offended and never really have a problem with graphic television or movies. ATHF typically has a lot of random violence, which is to be expected from this type of cartoon. Tonight, though, it really blind-sided me with a scene involving cruelty against a cat.

Now, I've seen plenty of cat jokes. Most of them don't bother me because they are obviously fake or not very graphic. I don't think they are all that funny, but to each their own. I'm not sure why, but this scene in ATHF struck me as being rather sick and sadistic.

Meatwad is singing to his kitten, Shake picks it up and sticks it in the microwave then turns it on. The kitten mews and paws at the door, then explodes into a bloody mess. They open the door and entrails begin to fall out onto the floor. For some reason it really upset and shocked me. I know it's a cartoon, but I found it to be extremely tasteless. I asked Dan to change the channel. Some people might find that funny, but honestly I saw no humor in it.

I read later that this episode sets up a "Pet Cemetery" kind of storyline. Another kitten is microwaved (as if one isn't enough) and Shake gets what is coming to him later on.

I know it might seem silly to get worked up over it, but I love cats. I've taken care of them in shelters and owned them as pets. It really strikes a cord with me, I guess. It just makes me feel really uncomfortable and sad to see something that random and graphic, even if it's animated.

I'm going to go get some rest now. I put on some VapoRub and it seems to be helping a little. It was my birthday on Thursday and I'm 26 years old now. Another year of uneventful monotony. Woohoo.
