So I used to get migraines before I was pregnant with my now 3.5 year old kid. I didn't get a single one while pregnant, and at least until she was 18 months old. I've only had about 3 or 4 since then. Until 2 weeks ago. I have had four in the last two weeks, including one last Friday and one today. And they start with the fun ocular/ophthalmic/ ( Read more... )

Yeah, the inhaled Imitrex made me throw up. I hated that stuff. It was the bitterest tasting stuff in the world, and you were supposed to shoot it up your nose, and it drips down to the back of your throat and tongue where your bitterness tastebuds are concentrated. And no matter how much water I'd drink afterwards, it wouldn't go away for hours. I have a ton of those hanging around in various drawers because I stopped using them. I've only used the injector twice so far, but I definitely like it better than the spray.

I know a woman who gets the blind spots with her aura. On the one hand, that would suck. On the other, I think it beats puking or feeling like you really need to puke, for hours! My mom used to get migraines, but this winter was the first time she had an ophthalmic one, with the pressure and distortion. She was driving to work, and luckily she was on a very familiar road and could pull over, because otherwise she wouldn't have been able to see enough to drive. The doctor put her on beta blockers, I think only temporarily.

Yeah, the visual distortions are very weird. I'm thinking I'm going to pull a picture into Photoshop and see if I can try to depict what I see. I get what's called metamorphopsia and I get the vibrating jagged lines that look like lightening, and I get scotoma, which is described on this page, and I get facial metamorphopsia. THe first time I got one, it was just the facial and other metamorphopsia, but lately, I'm getting the scintillating lines as well. Some of the things you can get are WILD! Check out this page. Cinematographic vision and mosaic illusion sound amazing!

And yeah, I'd rather have the visual stuff than the nausea, as long as I know that I'm not having a stroke or an aneurysm or something.

I get vision like everything is under water - blurring and swirling. And sometimes colorful spots that take up half my vision. It's a little frustrating when I'm trying to *read* something, but otherwise pretty cool, actually. \

The first time it happened, it scared me half to death thinking I was having a stroke or maybe a retinal detachment, though.

Yeah, that's the thing, it's just annoying if you're not thinking you have something going horribly wrong, or you have to actually use your eyes for anything other than seeing the weirdness. Gets a little boring, can't read, can't drive, can't watch tv, can't really look at people because it's freaky.
