Warning: bad art ahead
-------------------------
So, this summer, I doodled a lot in my notebook during class. XD I can't help it! Sometimes the professor gives information that I don't need to write down, and I get bored.
I suppose I should start describing what's happening here. These are characters from one of my original stories. It, like my latest fanfiction, is called Revenant, though not all capitalized, and is merely a temporary title. The top of the drawing is a group of doodles done in class in my notebook. There are a couple different characters to see, such as the running girl on the top left, named Cécile. To the right of her are two other characters, both unnamed, that come in at a much later portion of the story. Below Cecile is Gabriel (a temporary name for the character), and to the right of him, Relic.
Beneath that doodle page is a scan of a page from my sketchbook, with a line-up of the 3 main characters of Revenant, and one of the side characters (the guy on the far left, also unnamed) that doubles as an ally and antagonist. The portraits on the bottom show the faces of the characters above them. You can kinda see that I colored in a few, but left off, as I had to leave for vacation. Some of the relationships also really show here.
At the beginning, none of the characters are really close to each other, and in fact, Cecile and Relic dislike each other, and Gabriel is indifferent to them, seeing them only as allies that will help him reach his goal (though he's not as aloof as he sounds, trust me). But this depicts an instance in the story where the main characters have gotten much closer to each other. Cecile is holding her hand out to the side character, a gesture that depicts her reliance upon him as a friend, since he ended up saving her, despite being an enemy who, if he were to help the protagonists, would more likely than not be killed.
The story is actually a bit more complicated than how I'm explaining it, but I won't go into much detail, since that could take pages to write out. XD
Next!
These are doodles in my sketchbook of Relic and Gabriel. At the top is a concept sketch of Relic and Gabriel in the clothes they begin their journey with, though I've since changed these slightly. To be honest, I came up with their clothes designs over 4 years ago. I'll include some of the sketches I did back then that first sparked my interest in developing such a story. Anyway, the scene depicted next to the top image is an opening scene of the story, introducing Gabriel.
Uh, I guess I can say that Gabriel was a captive, though of who and what, he has no clue. He can't quite remember what went on where he was held, or why he was there in the first place, though he's sure that he was put there because of his parents, offered up like a sacrificial lamb. His captors said they were attempting to cleanse him, and all the other captives trapped there. He was incredibly weak most of the time, growing closer and closer to death with each attempt at 'cleansing.' It was a procedure that he could never quite picture clearly, merely a flash of water, as though he were drifting under the surface. At one point, he was sure he was on the brink of death, and put through one last cleansing. His captors left him in his room to die. That is the scene depicted in the doodle.
Gabriel has a great hatred of looking through windows from the inside of rooms. He's incredibly paranoid of being put in places where he can see outside, but is unable to get outside. Anyway, Gabriel falls asleep, finally ready to give up the ghost but angry and screaming on the inside about how he wanted so much to see beyond the patch of sky presented through the window. And suddenly he wakes up, feeling great and ready to go. He ambushes the people who come to check his room and then keeps running, away from the room, his captors, and finally the city where the tower he was held in for many years was. On his own, out int he wilds, he's relentlessly attacked by monsters. It's when he's about to be overcome that Relic comes to save him.
And that brings us to the image below the window scene. That's Relic's profile. Her title is something along the lines of, "Relic, Pink Tint of the Seven Orders." Yes. Relic is a pink magic-user. She belongs to a secluded land of mages that adhere to a strict hierarchy. Based on the seven colors of the rainbow, the pedigree of a magic user is based upon how intense their 'hue' is. They're color-coded. XD The pure colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Their acceptance into society is based upon how intense the hue of their color is; if it's a pure red (not crimson, not pink, which are tints and shades), then the mage is considered a powerful and superior being. Relic is a pink-tint, so she's considered a very low-class mage, and is rather shunned. She's relegated to being a healer, though later on in the story, she proves to be much more capable of things.
Relic finds and defends Gabriel, and manages to attach herself to his side by acting as his guide through a world he has no clue about. She smiles constantly, and generally has an incredibly unsettling aura about her. No one really likes her upon meeting her, including Gabriel and Cecile, who can barely stand her. Relic states that she smiles a lot because she thinks it's what people expect others to do. She never really seems to show anything besides an unsettling happy face, and it pisses people off more than it attracts them to her. On the inside, though...let's just say there are quite a few things that are incredibly cynical about her, and she holds no value for her own life, or others'.
The last image depicts Relic much later on, when some of that inner tension is solved.
These are the first drawings I made of Relic, about 4 or 5 years ago, and the scene I drew that inspired me to make the story:
Hopefully, I've gotten a bit better at drawing than these images. XD The first image is the scene, wherein Relic was shot, thought he idea of blood gushing out has since been scrapped, since that wouldn't be possible, considering her circumstances. I can't say, because those are plot-relevant details. Either way, yeah. Ain't she a cutie?
This is a drawing from about 2 years ago, when I had gotten further along in thinking up the story, and is placed much later than the other drawings (the outfit is the same as the one depicted in the main character line-up, though both are technically out of place considering the plot timeline).
As you can see, I've had a bit of a style change since then.
Whew! That was long. Sorry! DX Onto the next batch!
This time, it's a Cecile batch!
Originally in Revenant, Cecile has long hair. Her character remains relatively stagnant in the storyline until about the second half, where she goes from extreme dislike of Relic (not caring if she dies), to grudging respect, and then to friends. She tags along with Gabriel and Relic when she sprouts a crush on Gabriel. She is a "Blue-hue of the Seven Orders," meaning that she is a pure hue, and considered a potent mage. She originally sets out from the Sanction (the sacred and secret land of the Seven Orders) on a journey to obtain a certain artifact to complete a ritual so that she may return to her homeland and be considered a full adult. She goes with Gabriel, figuring him to be a powerful person, and can simultaneously attempt to make him fall for her.
She could be considered a snobby personality, though really it's an act to try and boost her self-confidence. She's considered the weakest in her strong family bloodline, meaning that she's merely average, and was teased a lot by her brothers and sisters for it. She keeps her hair long in the beginning of the story, it going to about mid-back. Her clothes are also very different. I don't have any scans yet of them, but I'll include some at another time. She's depicted here in a couple different outfits, mostly because I can't figure out what to make her wear. And actually, recently I've been thinking up an alternate storyline, so I keep dressing Relic and Cecile differently. XD
I think I forgot to mention it, but those belonging to the Seven Orders are actually that color:
Please excuse the rough coloring! I did it by mouse. >< But yeah, hair color and eye color match, and indicate the color of the mage. Their clothes often match their color scheme. Relic has a very pink wardrobe, with lots of light pink, while Cecile is milder, and merely goes for a blue vest in the beginning, over-top a long red dress, and blue stockings. Gabriel, on the other hand, has funny-looking hair for an entirely different reason...mostly because I haven't decided on a hair color yet. XD
Cecile eventually cuts her hair and begins to wear a wardrobe that mainly stays with blue and white, which is a lot less noticeable than her red dress. XD
I don't know. XD For some reason, I always like drawing characters with clothes and such for stories. I won't ever spend a significant portion of time writing about a costume, but I just love making them, and then imagining my stories with the characters, all dressed up.

Alright, I think that's all I wanted to show as far as doodles were concerned. XD
Sorry for explaining so much! But Revenant is a story that I've spent the last 5 years formulating, and there's a lot of story to tell. XD Someday I'll write it! I've been toying around with the idea of writing out the first chapter for a while now. But I dunno, it might distract me from writing REVENANT. XD As you can guess, REVENANT's name was partially inspired by the temporary title of this original story.
Now, on that note, I think I'll also mention that I've made a photobook. :) It's finished. All I have to do is order it, and it'll be sent to me!
Now, others can view the photobook on Shutterfly.com, and decide if they want to order it as well. All they have to do is fill out shipping details and pay. :)
If you find you can't order it from the above slideshow, try this link:
http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0AbNmbJi2Ys2jo4 Unfortunately, you have to create an account on Shutterfly.com in order to order it, but oh well. ;-;
And I think that's it. :D
I'm pet-sitting my friend's baby turtle, so I'll maybe post some pictures of it soon. I'm going to be taking care of it for 2 weeks; I hope I don't kill it. >< It's sooo cute! It's maybe only an inch long, and so shy! It really hates me. XDDDD
Thanks for reading. :)
