Celestial Being's Overall Plan
Or, how Celestial Being manipulated the world into uniting over a span of 200 years.

Celestial Being's plan all starts with Aeolia Schenberg. Born in the year 2051 on earth, over 200 years before Celestial Being's first armed intervention, he was a brilliant physicist and inventor. He proposed the initial designs for the Solar Power Generation System, as well as the base design for machines that would go on to become known as mobile suits. He was also a social recluse that founded Celestial Being and provided the foundation of his technology. He discovered GN particles; created the base theory that the GN Drives were built on; and designed the quantum supercomputer known as Veda, which was the backbone of Celestial Being's operations. He was also the architect of their overall plan to unite the world.
Aeolia's plan for unifying the world would take over 200 years to come to fruition, and Aeolia, being human, would not live to see its completion. However, Veda, his quantum supercomputer, would become the caretaker of his plan, and was primarily responsible for recruiting new members and providing direction for Celestial Being.
Phase 1 - Veda
Knowing that his plan would take longer than his lifespan, Aeolia created the quantum supercomputer, Veda, to be the caretaker of the plan. Being more advanced than any other piece of technology of its time (and more advanced than any other computer nearly 200 years into the future), Veda was able to worm its way into every secure network on earth and monitor and manipulate data. It was responsible for covering Celestial Being's tracks over the years, gathering intelligence, laundering money, securing resources, identifying perspective talent, assisting in research, and manipulating governments towards the future Aeolia planned.
In addition to being a power supercomputer, Veda could also create human looking "bio-terminals" known as Innovades. These though programmed to serve Veda, they were also fully sentient beings, and had lifespans that greatly exceeded that of a normal human. They allowed Veda to interact with the world beyond digitally, being able to directly influence events and provide hands on assistance in research and development. All the Innovades were able to communicate with Veda via "quantum brainwaves," a form of telepathy.
Phase 2 - The Solar Power Generation System
With fossil fuels starting to in real danger of being depleted by the 23rd century, Aeolia proposed the Solar Power Generation System in 2090 as a solution. At the time, it was scoffed at and didn't get much attention, as nuclear power was a less expensive and far more viable alternative. But around 2207, with oil reserves shrinking and large-scale nuclear power being dangerous, over a century after it was initially proposed (and a century before the first armed intervention), the world adopted the plan.
The Solar Power Generation Plan involved the construction of three orbital elevators, all an equal distance from each other, and each one extending 50,000 kilometers from the earth's surface. The orbital elevators are connected by a pair of rings that circle the planet; the high orbital ring (at 40,000 kilometers above the earth) houses all the solar panels that gather power; and the low orbital ring (at an altitude of 10,000 kilometers) which powers a barrier that protects the high orbital ring from radiation and space debris.
In addition to solving the energy crisis, the orbital elevators gave easy access to space for the first time. Moving people and objects from the surface to space through linear trains within the orbital elevators was faster, cheaper, easier, and significantly safer than launching a spaceship, and could move more weight per trip. It allowed for a stepping stone for space colony development and exploration.
To build the orbital elevators, a project that would take upwards of a century to complete, nations had to band together and combine their resources in order to foot the bill. This resulted in several nations gathering into one of three major blocs, the Union, the AEU, and HRL.
The Union of Solar Energy and Free Nations, known largely as "the Union," consists of all the nations in both North and South America, as well as Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. They control the orbital elevator known as the Tower (or True Pillar), the first of the three orbital elevators to be fully operational, which is located in central America, along the equator. Each member nation in the union still retains their own government, and their own national military, while all decisions of the Union as a while go through a special Parliament. But with the United States still being both an economic and military power, it's effectively the leader of the Union, and provides most of the weapons and manpower for the Union military forces.
The Advanced European Union, known commonly as the AEU, consists of nations on the European continent, along with Turkey, Palestine, Iceland, and Greenland, and controls some territories in Africa. The principle African territory they control is in the vicinity of Lake Victoria, which is where their orbital elevator, La Tour, the last of the three to be fully operational, is located. While each nation has a certain amount of autonomy, the AEU is ruled arbitrarily by a Parliament.
The Human Reform League is the third major power, a largely communist bloc made up of Russia, China, India, as well as most of the nations of South Asia, with the exceptions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. They control Heaven's Pillar, the orbital elevator located on an artificial island in the Pacific. Unlike the other blocs, the HRL doesn't have a parliament, but instead has a chairman who oversees it.
The orbital elevators solved the energy crisis, but their operation was contigent on the three major powers. The orbital elevators were relatively weak structures, and all three had to remain standing and connected to the orbital rings in order to provide power. Not to mention that the collapse of one could spell extinction for humanity. However, rather than the three powers further moving towards peace, all three entered into a three-way cold war. They continued weapons development, and fueled smaller conflicts around the world to further their agenda.
Moreover, nations whose economy that depended on oil, mainly the nations of the middle east, were plunged into poverty. Prior to the Solar power generation plan going into effect, restrictions had been placed on oil exports by the UN. The nations resisted, causing the Solar Power wars that lasted more than 20 years. During that time, several nations were dissolved, absorbed into other nations, or reformed repeatedly.
Phase 3 - GN (Gundam Nucleus) Drive development
While Aeolia created the base theory that led to the GN drives, it would take roughly 150 years before that theory became reality. Roughly 130 years after the formation of Celestial Being, a manned science mission to Jupiter was undertaken. This mission was a cover for GN drive development. Jupiter was necessary because its dense atmosphere, strong gravity, and massive magnetic sphere was needed to create one of the GN drive components, the TD Blanket. While other components could be manufactured on earth, a TD Blanket is what gives the GN an infinite operating time, without an external power source necessary. Other imitation GN drives can only operate for a set amount of time, and are dependent on an external energy source to power them for that time.
However, it would still be some time before psudeo-GN drives would be developed. Before that, the GN drives were the monopoly of Celestial Being. The drives were vastly superior to any and all power sources by any nation on earth. It took 20 years to create them, and only five were made. The drives were kept a secret, so much so that everyone involved in their development was murdered, and virtually all of the data at the Jupiter site was erased. The drives were sent back to earth by unmanned capsules, piloted by haro units.
Sometime after the drives were sent to Celestial Being, development on the line of Gundams would begin.
Phase 4 - ITS A GUNDAM
One of Aeolia's many project was laying the foundation for machines known as mobile weapon platforms. Those machines would eventually evolve into the mobile suits commonly used 200 years later. At that time, "Gundam" was the name given to development of special mobile weapons that would run on GN Drives. It would take nearly 180 years before the first Gundam, the GN-000 0 Gundam would be completed. However, that Gundam would not be the machine used when the armed interventions began.
The Gundams went through a series of development phases, with the third generation machines (Exia, Dynames, Kryios, and Virtue) being deemed worthy of being able of carrying out the armed interventions. Though even after the debut of the machines, development on the Gundams and the GN Drives continued.
