It's been an interesting couple of weeks. The student I've been training, Lars, is now on semester break and travelling with his girlfriend. On his last day, I made him some chocolate covered strawberries, and he baked me some cupcakes. They were fabulous! The frosting had a little too much butter in it, but considering that he hadn't even heard of cupcakes when I first mentioned them a couple of weeks ago, they were incredible. He didn't even use cake in a box! With that, I now realize how incredibly sweet american desserts are, having acclimated to things like apple cake and non-sweetened whip cream.
The weather has been crazy--two days of incredible warm bright sun, then two days of heavy fog all day, to be followed by a weekend of beautiful sun, and today: clouds.
Work is still work, unfortunatley, but I'm more than half way through! We should have a publication by the time I come back to the states as well.
I seem to be continuously hungry in this country. My mom thinks it's boredom (which it could be), I think it's the lack of preservatives and variety. If it's not in season, you don't eat it here. Very frustrating, especially in winter. I've even developed a liking of mango and papaya, two tropical fruits I've avoided ever since a bad expierence with the mango chutney at World Wraps. God I want Chipotle.
Reuben and I already have our first couple of 'dates' planned for when I get back. I think we're kind of jumping the gun, but it's a really nice thing to think about. I'm gonna need some serious socializing when I get back. That and a trip to a real mall. And going grocerey shopping on Sunday! I get giddy just thinking about it!
I've started planning a weekend trip up to Amsterdam to go to the Tulip fields. I think it should be really neat. they plant the flowers in patterns and pictures and things, and they have just about every Tulip known to man, as well as some other flowers. According to the website, it's the most photographed place in Europe.
