Hello again

Man, where do I even start when it comes to August? Ever since we got home from Mammoth, it's gone at lightspeed - which doesn't even make sense, seeing as my non-work life has been fairly unexciting. I've been clinging to a few hours of free time each night, then hitting the hay early (read: before midnight) thanks to exhaustion. I haven't been very socially or creatively productive at all, but I'm choosing to see this more as a relief than a bummer, because you know... sometimes I just need to be a hermit. I need to close my door and absorb things and say "screw you" to output. Now that I've had a full month of this hermitdom, though, I think I'm ready to come out of my cave - and good thing too, as FAAAALLL is approaching! My absolute favorite time of the year. I even love it a little bit more than Christmastime, just because of all the end-of-the-year anticipation. (Whereas my past few Christmases have been characterized by cries of "WAIT, WAIT! NOT YET! I NEED TO ANTICIPATE YOU SOME MORE!")

Anyway, we've got so much awesomeness lined up. HOORAY. Tonight, we're having an impromptu Disneyland date, because it's the last "official" week of summer there - it's going to start closing early on weekdays again, which is very sad. (Late night weekdays at Disneyland = one of life's greatest charms.) Tomorrow, I'm seeing Franz Ferdinand in Hollywood with one of my good high school buddies (it's her favorite band, and kind of a tradition for us at this point). Then, a couple of friends are coming down to stay with us over the weekend, for an old-fashioned SLUMBER PARTY of epic proportions. Good way to kill my hermitdom and kick off the rest of the year!

I conclude this post by telling you all how unbelievably awesome Batman: Arkham Asylum is, and how you should go hijack your friend's 360 or PS3 to play it if you have ever liked Batman even a little. It's kind of taking the gaming world by storm right now, as nobody expected it to be very good - there's never been a good Batman game, I know I was just hoping for "decent" - but instead, it is one of the best games to come out all year! Luke and I spent most (okay, all) of last night delving into it and duuuude, besides nailing everything that is Batman in the flick of a cape, it's got so much variety in the gameplay I'm astonished. This is no dull third-person combat experience with a handful of cutscenes thrown in. This is a fully-fleshed out, open-ended experience that you can take at your own pace; there's so much history built into it that for once, I'm ditching my main objective to go off exploring, which I never do. (I blame Riddler.) The mood is just right - grittier than the animated series, with much more borrowed from the comics, but without sacrificing the heart that I loved the show for - guess I have Paul Dini to thank for that. Who wrote the game. PAUL DINI GUYS, writing hundreds of golden throwaway lines for MARK HAMILL JOKER to deliver, I'm in heaven! Plus, Kevin Conroy Bats talking to himself! Just adorable. And he draws batsymbols with explosive gel (this will never stop being hilarious). ILU BATMAN.

Ahem, so. This coffee really has me feeling good right now, so I'm gonna go take advantage of that and get some work done. Yes.
