One more reason to love Mark Hamill

At the bidding of censes, I just finished watching Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky - wow. What a beautiful film. I still can't believe it was made in my birth year ('86) - the animation and art direction is incredible for its time... it must have been a mammoth task to pull off back then. And of course, as is the case with most of Miyazaki's films, it's practically spilling over with heart. Or maybe I'm just easily won over. But, Sheeta and Pazu - awww. I wanted to hug them both. Who's a sap? *raises hand*

By far, though, the most entertaining (and surprising) aspect of it must be Mark Hamill as Colonel Muska. Oh, my goodness. During the first 15 minutes or so, his voice had me suspicious - so I did a quick pause and logged onto IMDb... yep. Apparently, Disney did an English dub in 2003 - the one I was watching - and none other than Hamill was voicing the Big Bad.

And as everything progressed, he just got Bigger and Badder, which had Ali twittering with glee. Total Joker flashbacks whenever he went "you little BRAT!" and that laugh at the end - I was choking, it was so perfect. It's made me quite upset that I left my copy of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker at the dorm (the PG-13 version).

I swear, Hamill does sinister-and-twisted far too well. If Luke ever turned to the dark side, I'm convinced Col. Muska/Animated Joker is exactly what he'd sound like. *g*

Gosh, this makes me miss 2D animation. I'm so fed up with 3D/CGI features.

Anywho. Off to find something constructive to do with my day! (That'll be a trick.)

animation, star wars, batman, movies
