Random list of things

1. There are anoles copulating everywhere. Gillian asked me, "What are those two lizards doing?" "Playing a game," I answered. Yeah, the game of luv. And is it just me, or does "anole" sound dirty?

2. I took a toothbrush and some baking soda and cleaned the birdbath. Because when the pretty blue ceramic glaze starts to be a manky green, it's time. And also, birds are starting to use it (mating pair of cardinals the other day, aw).

3. In other garden news, we now have a population of spiny-backed orb weaver spiders (ours look like pictures 9-11). The design on their backs looks like Jason's hockey mask, and they are altogether cool and scary-looking. They make the classic spiral spider web, and are related to another kind of orb weaver, which was the spider in Charlotte's Web.

4. So far, this post seems to be about wildlife.

5. On a different topic, Gillian just finished a week of art camp, and had a marvelous time. It was just the environment I wanted for her: creative, stimulating, fun, and not overly concerned with rules and neatness. My favorite piece of hers is the tropical landscape with sunset clouds and bananas raining from the sky. Because it's the tropics!

6. Elliot is still in thrall to his sweeping compulsion. Sometimes he has a broom in each hand. Two-fisted sweeping! We would put him in therapy, but then the house wouldn't be so clean.

7. Doctor Who was so awesome last night, I'm planning to download the second half of the episode so I don't have to wait a week to see what happens.

8. Here is some amusing Iron Man crackfic from atrata. Five inappropriate gifts from Tony Stark.

9. I have been simultaneously cleaning out and organizing the garage and office. Not just making things neat, but getting rid of actual stuff. At the rate I'm going, I'll be all done in 2012.

10. rt_hon_rackman and I will be going out without the children next Sunday. It's important to have alone time with your spouse every 6 months or so.
