I've been writing about elves a lot recently, because that's the kind of person I am. And the awkward thing about that is the lack of gender- and age-specific terms for elves. One has to write "male elf," "female elf," "boy elf," "girl elf," and so on. The term "elf" does not reduce or combine, nor does the English language contain the equivalent of "man," "woman," "boy," and "girl" for elves. Considering that in most literary and popular incarnations, elves predated humans, they would have a right to be incensed by this lexicological ghettoizing. Plus, it's a pain in my ass.
To remedy this situation, I propose to add some new words to the English language, mostly for my own convenience. These words are "melf," "felf" (or maybe "welf"), "belf," and "gelf." This is my official announcement. OED, take note.
(Why the Bowie icon? Because he's one of the elves I'm writing about. You either know all about that, or you don't want to.)
