I've been doing a lot of thinking recently about tropes and issues of gender and race in various forms of entertainment. Hopefully, I will find the time and energy to write some of my thoughts at length. In the mean time, here are a couple of links on those topics that I found interesting.

Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. The article is sometimes overblown and condescending, but the central premise is one I believe in: women's issues are human issues, just as issues of race and religious tolerance impact people of all races and religions. I haven't read the book, but I plan to on the basis of this article.
