My Town

So, here I am in Chicago. The first couple of days were not sufficiently cooler and free of biting ants to make me really feel that I'd left Florida behind, but today was lovely. I've been hanging out at my parents house, admiring the living room they have where there used to be a slice of the apocalypse. I even bestirred myself to go running. The downside of my parents' place is a lack of wifi. I can use my mom's computer, but can't log in to LJ because she can't remember how to log back in to her account. (I'm posting now using the wifi at my sister's house.)

I went to see the lovely and fascinating annaoj today, since she is in town for a con and nice enough to schlep from O'Hare to Hyde Park to have a visit. We hadn't seen each other in six years.

I'm staying in Beverly, so I loaded up the kids and drove them entirely the wrong direction until I realized that I was nowhere near the Dan Ryan. We finally made it to Bon Jour, and despite some wonderful live jazz in the courtyard, we went inside so we could chat. We discussed the upcoming con, Star Trek, and Wiscon, and I gave her a slice of my feminist critiques of Disney movies. Gillian snitched my brie, and Elliot got ginger-molasses backwash in my water bottle. Then we went to the park for a few minutes and said adieu.

Going back on the newly configured Dan Ryan, I managed to get onto the Skyway by mistake. In my defense, there didn't used to be a ramp there. I was like, "WTF!?!? We're not to 71st street yet!" So Indiana got my money, damn them. But I did get back to the far South Side, and even watched the Cubs beat the Sox while having dinner at Pappy's.

In summary: lost, Bon Jour, friend, park, lost, computer, dinner, baseball.

me, friends, family, chicago, trip
