I'm feeling much better than last night, and I offer some minor apologies for the mood of the previous posting. As I had mentioned, events had transpired that soured my mood, and it obviously came through in the writing. It may have sounded as if the entire week was one misadventure after another, resulting in a craptastic experience best left to wither. That's not quite how it was; there were certainly bright and sunny spots throughout the week, but sometimes it's just easier to remember the crappy stuff because it sticks more. I think a night's sleep helps a lot; Even if you don't get much sleep, a little down-time helps clear away the caustic feelings, and leaves you more refreshed.
I was going to phone the Home Hardware store in Swift Current this morning to see if they had the door I wanted. Before I did that, I glanced at the flyer they had put out announing their sale on doors, and found that it had expired last week. I already knew that the Co-Op's sale price was better than Home Hardware's regular price, so there was no sense pursuing that option. I tried calling the Co-Op in Swift Current, but it turns out that even though they're a much larger store (biggest Co-Op I've ever seen!) they actually don't keep the doors in stock, and would have to special-order one. With that in mind, I called our local Co-Op and asked them to order the door, and we'd make do somehome in the meantime.
This time I was able to actually talk directly to a manager, and she apologized for yesterday's mix-up and offered a possible solution: I could take home a six-panel solid door today, and when the door we wanted (with the sunburst skylight) arrived, they'd swap it out for me. That sounded like a reasonable compromise to the problem, so I agreed. As it turns out, when I went to pick up the door this afternoon, this manager (and another one) actually found the door that I was supposed to get yesterday! They actually did have one in stock, but the guy in the yard had marked the wrong door, and then got all frustrated (because it was close to quitting time) and didn't bother to search the stock properly to see if they had the proper one! So I wound up getting the proper door afterall, and I've made arrangements with a friend in town to help install it tomorrow morning. Here's hoping that goes well!
A package arrived in the mail (finally!) from the Bowling Proprietors Association of Canada (BPAC) containing our 2009/2010 league manuals, door decal, and other information. I don't know if the timing is purely coincidental, or if our area-rep called them and chewed some heads off. In any case, we're finally getting things moving on that front.
The kidling wanted to stay in town this evening on the off-chance that he might get to stay at a friend's house, so I had the place to myself this evening. After feeding the animals, I treated myself to a chance to sit down and watch a movie, and pig-out on natchos. I'll probably regret the latter later, and I'm already rather regretting the choice of movies; I had picked up "The Happening" in the bargain bin a while ago, and I probably should have left it there. Frankly, that was an hour-and-a-half of my life that I'm not going to get back. Ah well, at least the nachos were yummy! *urp!*
In other good news, my brother finally cleared all the paperwork this afternoon to buy his first house! He's down with a bit of a cold, and he's seeing a chiropractor daily because he's suffering from worse back-pain than I had, but he's still pretty hyped up and excited! I remember when I bought my first house, so I imagine the feeling is much the same. The biggest difference (I think) is that he'll actually have some furniture for his place, since he's had his own place (albiet rented) for several years now. Now I need to find a nice card, and buy him a wet/dry shop-vac for a house-warming gift. I think those make ideal house-warming gifts, because they're something that every homeowner will eventually need, and when you do, you need it now, not after you can run out to the store to get one. I'm not exactly sure when the possession date is, but I think it's pretty soon. Exciting times, indeed!
