Trixstir headed to Calgary today for an appointment with the audiologist, so I was left to run the bowling alley today. Thursdays are a regular day for our seniors, so I knew we'd have some business. Today only three of them came (there's usually six or more) but at least that's better than none. I joined them so we'd have an even number of players, and was well and thoroughly whupped!
Of course, one has to keep in mind that these guys have been bowling longer than I've been alive, but it was a lot of fun playing with them. It's also amazing how much of a workout you can get from even 5-pin bowling; 10-pin would really be a workout if today was any indication!
I was concerned that my elbows would give me problems, and to a point that was true; I couldn't easily lift the ball with my left hand, the pain was just intense. But my right hand (and thankfully I'm right-handed) gave me no problems. What actually hurt wasn't my elbow at all, but my right shoulder was soon throbbing! It feels OK now, but it was really aching during the games (we played three rounds.)
I've mentioned this several times in my posts, and working with them, I continue to stand by it: Don't underestimate Senior Citizens, they'll either surprise you with what they can do, and/or they'll whup your pants off in something your cocky youthfulness makes you think you'd be better at! Great examples: Bill Cosby's "Handball at the Y" skit, or the 1986 movie,
Tough Guys.
