It was a fairly busy day at the shop, as it usually is. I got in at 9am after dropping the Munchkin off at school, and finished off the snowblower that I mentioned in the previous post. I was working on a chainsaw when another customer came in with yet another chainsaw, so that will be added to the queue. A lot of the issues with chainsaws could be solved if people would just take the time to take basic care of them - mostly to clean them now and then. They usually come in here absolutely packed with crud, and the common complaint "It doesn't work!" No shit Sherlock... Only once have I ever had a customer bring in a saw that was actually (mostly) clean, and it made it a lot faster and easier to correct the problem.
I mentioned that I am trying to change the hours of the shop to be more effective, and to give myself more time to work on things back at the farm as well. The light-up sign that I have at the shop uses peel-and-stick decals for the hours. In theory, these can be removed and replaced over and over again with ease. Well, not so much after it's been sitting in a sunny window for a long time. The decals become hard and brittle, and firmly stuck; It took me some time with a razor-blade to remove them. The company that makes the sign probably realized this, because shortly after I bought it, they came out with a new version that uses LED numerals for the hours, and they can be changed by setting the code-wheels for each one. I found myself wishing that I could justify replacing the sign with one of the newer ones.
When I plugged it back in, I got my wish!
Instead of the hours lighting up solidly, and the OPEN part blinking, the whole sign started flashing really quickly; More of a flickering really, which tells me there's a problem somewhere in the power-supply. Maybe it's in the sign itself, or maybe it's in the wall-wart power supply. I'll have to try to find another power supply and see it it helps. While I'd really like to get one of the new signs, I really can't afford the cost right now. :/
I'm really glad that I got that snowblower done for my customer, as I see that now we've got a heavy-snowfall warning. *Bleah*
