Reach Out and Touch Someone...
I remember when AT&T used to run that ad all the time, and the sentiment of it is still applicable today, even with Email and instant-messaging and the like. There's something special about hearing the other persons' voice that makes it so much better. Skype works well too, particularly for those long-distance sort of calls. I have an "unlimited North America" plan on my cell-phone that lets me call anywhere in North America for "free" as part of the plan. Mostly I use it to call family, but on occasion I call friends as well for a nice chat.
I just had such a chat with my friend back in Cochrane; It's been a month or two since the last time we talked, and it was very nice to spend some time chatting and catching up on things again. My friends back in Alberta are one of the things I really miss out here, but at least this helps bridge the divide a bit.
