Today was the key point of this trip: The training/update seminar with Kohler Engines. The update covered a number of minor issues and new information about the engine line, as well as giving us a chance to see one of Kohler's new direct-port fuel-injected engines. The engine in question was a 25HP twin-cylinder engine, and the fuel injection system gave it a reduced emissions level while increasing fuel economy by up to 30%! This engine was designed as an OEM for the Snapper line of large riding mowers and Zero-Turn mowers. Under such industrial applications, a savings of 30% on fuel would be substantial!
Kohler is also getting deeper into the diesel line of things; They've had diesel engines for quite a while, but they recently purchased the Lombardi company in Italy, which has is a big name in small diesel engines. The idea is to bring high-quality diesel engines to North America while simultaneously being able to market their gasoline engines to the European market through Lombardi. A win-win deal, if it all works out properly. As a result, they're looking for more diesel dealers throughout North America, and are encouraging their existing dealers to consider this option. They're particularly keen on getting the "Expert Dealers" in on this, and I've got that status. Last year, I needed to bring in some diesel parts (filters and such) but it was a bit difficult because I wasn't set up as a diesel dealer, and Kohler wasn't really pushing it. Now that they are pushing the idea, it should be a simple phone-call to get the diesel line added. There's a nominal fee of $225, but that includes some tools, signage, and an assortment of fast-moving parts (again, filters and the like.) It also puts in you in the Dealer Locator on the Kohler website, so people looking for a diesel dealer will be directed to your shop. Sign me up!
Mom and I had a light supper at the Governor's Pub, just down the street from her place. Tomorrow I'm heading out to Cochrane to work on a friend's computer, and then we're heading back to Shaunavon on Saturday.
