Need a new cell-phone...

My cellular contract with SaskTel is due to expire in mid-November, so they've sent me a letter telling me that if I sign up for another three-year contract, I can get a great deal on a new cell-phone.  Big deal, I already have a cell-phone that I'm very happy with.  It doesn't have a camera, or an MP3 player, or keyboard, or anything like that.  It's small, and it makes good phone-calls.  That's all it does.

or did...

It would seem that after doing all the haying on Sunday, and needing clean clothes for work on Monday, there was a bit of a rush to get laundry done and my cell-phone was still in the pocket of my jeans when they were tossed in the wash!  Even though this phone was very durable, and water-resistant, it wasn't water-proof.  Even if something is water-proof, it generally means that you can dunk it under water, not slosh it around for an hour in hot soapy water, and subject it to high G-forces in the high-speed spin-cycle of a front-loader machine.  I had hoped that maybe I could open up the casing and clean it out, but it turns out that the tiny screws holding it together are not Phillips-heads, but a three-slotted head totally unique to the manufacturer, just to keep techies like myself from attempting any kind of repair work.  Further, closer examination shows me that the LCD screen has cracked, so it's a lost cause anyway.  *sigh*

I could just have Trixstir's phone transferred to my number, since we both have the same make and model of phone, and she wants to get a new one anyway.  That's not so much the issue as losing all my contacts in the phone - it's going to be a major pain in the butt to try to program all of that info into a new phone, if I can even remember all of it.  The phone still powers up and operates, I just can't see anything on the display, and I'm not sure if it would actually send or receive anything.  Now that I think about it, it does have BlueTooth - if that part of it still works, I might be able to download the phone-book into another BlueTooth device, and save my data that way!  Hmmmm....  :)

I'll have to try that later.  Does anyone know of a program that would let a BlueTooth enabled laptap (or an iPad) download the contents of a cell-phone phone-book for later editing and/or retrieval?

In other news...  I see that a number of my friends are ailing these days.  I'm amoung them, though mine is mostly just a sore throat brought on by sucking diesel-fumes for several hours while haying on the weekend.  If I'm going to keep that Deutz tractor, I'm going to have to raise the exhaust stack at least three feet so that it's well above my head, rather than right at face-level as it is now.  Things are going well at the shop, though it hurts to see the money flying out as fast as it comes in to pay the various bills.  At least right now each of my mortgage payments actually pays more on the principal than it does in interest.  Ten more years, and the shop is paid for.  My customer-base continues to grow, and every one of them tells me that they're so glad to see me here, and that I'll do well with this venture.  I sure hope so; As I said, I've got ten more years of mortgage payments to make!
