The weather continues to be less than cooperative. When I got back to the farm this evening, I saw that some of our shingles were flapping about up on the roof. I can only hope that they'll stay in place long enough for us to be able to get up there and try to nail them down again. That is to say, long enough for
trixstir to climb up on the roof to nail them down - I'm deathly afraid of heights, and Trixstir is the only one who isn't afraid to go up there. :/
It hailed in town, but the hail here must have been much more intense. The stones were only pea-sized, but combined with high winds they can be as abrasive as sand-blasting. The frame of the back-door has had at least half of its paint stripped off, and there was a hard-packed pile of hail-stones crammed up against the frame! With weather like that, I'm not surprised that some of the shingles are coming loose on the roof.
To top it all off, there's a tornado-watch in effect for the area. You'd think that a tornado-warning would warrant a large warning flag on the Environment Canada website, but it only has a small note on the side. :/ My concern is that we don't have a weather-radio, and even if we did, the nearest transmitter is in Swift Current, which puts it on the very edge of its range. I do have a radio that can pick up the weather stations, but there's more static than signal, making it pretty much useless. I don't know why a town the size of Shaunavon doesn't have a transmitter, and anyone further south of us would also be out of range of the Swift Current transmitter. I wonder who I'd have to contact to push the idea of getting a weather transmitter for this area?
For now though, I'm just hoping that our roof stays intact until we can fix it (again).... :/
