trixstir  was getting worried about getting stuck in the snow last night, so she closed the bowling alley early and came home just after 6pm.  While the snow hadn't come down like she was worried about, the high winds during the day had re-filled the driveway, blowing snow over the burms that the Kidling and I had built, and making it impassable once ( Read more... )

I thought about that too, and we could definitely get one for the Chevy 2500 truck. The problem with plows is, they're only good up to a point - once the snow gets to be too heavy, even a 4x4 is just going to spin its wheels. A tractor-mounted snow-blower on the other hand, chews its way through the snow and spits it out, so it's the ideal machine for the heavy areas.

The plow is still a great idea, and I do plan to get one eventually. They're ideal for when you're dealing with a lighter snowfall that isn't worthy of the snow-blower, and they're good for maintaining a path once the snow-blower has cleared it out initially, but one pretty much needs both.

Speaking of plows... It was more than a little aggravating the last couple of days as I was out on the driveway shovelling snow, and watching the plows drive past. They weren't even plowing the highway, they were just going to another location. I realize that it's "not their job" to dig me out, and perhaps there are legal reasons behind it, but it would have taken them two minutes to drive down the driveway and back out, instead of me breaking my back for two hours. No less than three plows drove past me, but not one offered to help. :P

Ohhhhh...didn't know they couldn't handle heavy snow that well. 2 out of every 3 trucks in my area have one permanently attached to their front all winter. Even talked to a guy today who was considering putting one on the front of his Subaru station wagon, with ballast in the back! XD He got 4 feet the last couple of days.

You know, it also didn't occur to me to warn ya that snow was coming...I forgot you guys seem to get similar weather within a day or to!
