The problem with rebuilding old engines, is you never really know what other problems are going to raise their ugly heads. I've come back indoors after spending the last few hours out in the shop, trying to get the old beast to work. It's still coming down to an issue with the spark, despite the fact that I have now tried two different Magnetron coils in the thing. The problem is that the spark is intermittent; sometimes it seems to work just fine, then it conks out again and just won't go. I've checked for shorts, I've checked the strength of the magnets on the flywheel, and everything seems fine. I am getting a weak spark, but you need a hot and powerful one to ignite the fuel-mixture properly. These Magnetron coils should be providing that spark, and I just can't figure out why they're not. I'm going to have to consult with B&S on Monday, and see if they have any answers. Both coils seemed to work for a short time, then they conked out, which makes me wonder if there's a batch of bad coils out there, or what.
At least I'm having a better day than
trixstir is having. She wasn't paying attention to what she was doing, and she stuck her hand into the ball-return at the bowling alley to retreive a stuck ball without making sure that there wasn't another ball hurtling down the chute. This is how she broke her finger back in 2008, though it seems that this time she got lucky and it's just very badly bruised!
Yesterday, I finally got the bill from the plumber for the boiler/heating-system repairs back from November 2008! The bill came out to just over $2000, which is about what I expected. Of course, the timing couldn't be any worse, and I wonder if since he took two years to get the bill to me, can I take two years to pay it? :/
Hope everyone else is having a better weekend so far! :)
