Despite our best efforts for an early start, it was past 3pm by the time we actually left Calgary. We actually left the house around 2pm, but faced close to another hour's delay trying to get fuel and air for the tires at one of the local truck stops. There's only one air-hose there, a short one in a spot that's difficult to manouver into. Makes me wonder how a semi is supposed to top up his tires with such an arrangement. In any case, there was a Checker Cabs taxi parked in front of the air hose, and the driver had gone inside. He finally came out, and then sat there for several more minutes fiddling with papers, and knowing perfectly well that we were waiting for him to move his cab so we could get to the air hose. Trixstir finally lost patience and went to have a word with him, and was rewarded with a torrent of verbal abuse before the jerk tore off. Pity that we didn't get the cab number. Thankfully, that was the worst part of the entire day, the trip to Shaunavon was smooth and uneventful, the truck behaved perfectly for the entire trip, and despite my concerns that we may have slightly overloaded it, it gave no indication that it was having any difficulties at all. We arrived at the farm around 9:30pm, so the trip only took 6.5 hours, including a break in Medicine Hat for food and fuel. That's only about half an hour more than a normal (IE: not pulling a huge loaded trailer) car trip, so it was excellent time.
We unloaded just enough stuff to be able to get into the bed at the front of the trailer. Tomorrow we'll unload more of it and head up to Lucky Lake to see Trixstir's parents and pick up the kidling. We'll also have to make a quick trip into town first for some cat food before the cats drive us crazy! Speaking of the cats, the one we call "Big Momma" is a little thinner, but otherwise well recovered from whatever injury she suffered earlier. Looks like it was just a sprain rather than a broken foot. We're glad to see that, as she's one of our favourites.
