French Bread, and KITTENS!

The French Bread that I was making today came out beautifully!  It actually rose a little too much, but otherwise it was perfect; the texture and flavour are exactly what I expected, and it's taking a lot of will-power to not scarf down the entire loaf!  ;)  What surprises me is that French Bread is actually a more simple recipe than typical white bread, uses less sugar and no fat, yet tastes (IMO) so much better!  I don't think I'll be making any more "regular" white bread anymore!  My only complaint is that the recipe that came with the bread-maker makes a Three-pound loaf!  That's really much too large, so I'll have to do a little work and convert the recipe for a Two-pound loaf.

The Kidling got a surprise this evening when he went to feed the horses; Spooky had started delivering her kittens!  One was already born, and a second was on its way out when he came into the barn.  He called Trixstir at the bowling alley right away to let her know what was going on, and she called me at the Co-op.  I explained to have the Kidling keep an eye on her, but not to touch her or the kittens.  When Trixstir and I got home a little later, there were six new kittens and a very tired Mommy Cat resting in the bed we made for her.  Smokey (the male) was pacing around, and occasionally snifffing at Spooky and the kittens.  She doesn't seem to be worried about him, and he's not showing any signs of aggression.  Perhaps it's because he's nuetered now, or perhaps it's because they're his kittens, but for now everything seems to be OK.

On the way home, Trixstir and I noticed a power-pole arcing!  It was about 1 mile North of our place, across the road from the Chamberry(?) Oil Battery.  The pole in question was a transition pole, where the main line runs North and South, and a branch line runs East and West.  The main line feeds several transformers on the pole, which in turn run the branch line - probably supplying power to the various wells and the battery.  One of the lines leading to one of the transformers was the one that was arcing, and we called SaskPower to let them know about it.

So that's the day's excitement.  Here's hoping we still have six live healthy kittens in the morning.  :)
